PREMIUM MG CALFCARE® PREMIUM Calf Milk Replacer is recommended as a milk replacer for calves from three (3) days of age after receiving sufficient intake and optimum benefit from first colostrum – a vital start in life. CALFCARE PREMIUM is produced from 100% Australian dairy ingredients to offer an easy to mix & highly digestible milk feed. In the young animal, it forms a curd (clot) in the stomach to aid casein digestion. CALFCARE PREMIUM has been supplemented with a proprietary blend of essential Vitamins (A, D, E, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B9, B12, C, K, biotin & choline) and Trace Minerals (Cobalt, Copper, Iodine, Iron, Zinc, Manganese & Selenium) to cover the young calf's requirements for optimum performance. Also includes low-dose probiotic to aid digestion and gut health. CALFCARE PREMIUM does NOT contain Tallow or any Restricted Animal Material. TYPICAL ANALYSIS: Min. Protein Min. Fat 25% 20% MIXING INSTRUCTIONS: Measure the required quantity of CALFCARE PREMIUM powder (a scale is more accurate) and dissolve in warm water (40°C); stir gently until fully dissolved. Then add the remaining quantity of water (warm or cold) to required volume and stir to ensure a homogenous mix. Feed at 40°C (body temperature). Gentle paddle or whisk actions are best for powder mixing. Avoid high-speed mechanical devices that generate an air vortex down the shaft of the stirring device. NB 1 level metric cup approximates 120g of powder. CALFCARE PREMIUM has been formulated to allow powder mixing, and feeding of reconstituted milk, at lower temperatures than those recommended above. MIXING RATES: 12.5% concentration (125g/L) for younger calves: • Add 125g of powder into half a litre of water. When mixed, top up with water to make 1 litre of liquid feed. • Bulk Mixing: 1 kg of powder added to 7 litres of water will make 8 litres of liquid feed. 20.0% concentration (200g/L) for older calves: • Add 200g of powder into half a litre of water. When mixed, top up with water to make 1 litre of liquid feed • Bulk Mixing: 1kg of powder added to 4 litres of water will make 5 litres of liquid feed. Caution: Liquid Feed Concentrations exceeding 20% Dry Matter may overwhelm the abomasum and induce feeding scours in some animals. FEEDING OTHER INFANT ANIMALS: This milk replacer has been formulated for calves but may be used as an emergency milk feed for foals (100g/L); kids & lambs (130-150g/L); and pups (170g/L). Specific milk replacers available for infant animals include: Calves - ProfeLAC GOLD for Automatic Feeders Lambs, kids, crias – ProfeLAC SHEPHERD Piglets – ProfeLAC PIGLET for commercial units CALFCARE PREMIUM FEEDING PROGRAMS: Twice daily feeding is recommended for the first 2-3 weeks of life. Feeding Small Calves under 35kg bodyweight: Target 10% of bodyweight (BWT) as daily liquid feed volume initially and increase to 4L by 2-3 weeks. 1. AUTOMATIC CALF FEEDERS - always use ProfeLAC GOLD Select a feeding regime that supplies minimum 500g powder/day and meets targeted growth rates. Calibrate machine for accurate powder dispensing. 2. EARLY WEANING – BEEF & DAIRY CALVES. Covers maintenance requirements with modest weight gain; drives rapid rumen development to enable early weaning. CALFCARE PREMIUM REARING PROGRAM: 1. BioSecurity - Calf disease prevention also starts with good hygiene and disinfection management to prevent and control the spread of infection. Thoroughly clean and disinfect pens, sheds and shelters with VirKon® S (diluted 1:100 with water) before use. Remember to clean and disinfect calfeterias, teats, water and feed troughs between feeds with VirKon® S (1:100 dilution). Maintain pen/shed hygiene with a weekly application of VirKon® S or NaturClean™ - ultra-absorbent powder. 2. Colostrum Feeding – Within the first 24 hours of life, calves must receive 10% of their body weight of first colostrum (larger breeds need a total of 4-5L; smaller breeds require 2-3L). Use BioStart CALF (rennet additive) to aid colostrum and milk digestion efficiency. Give newborns 2mL initial dose with first colostrum (aids IgG uptake) then 1mL per head per feed for the first 3 weeks. 3. Weak or ‘At Risk’ calves that won’t suckle will benefit from additional energy. Administer 15mL of ProfeSTART® Energy Plus PASTE on consecutive days to boost energy levels and aid appetite. 4. From 24 hours of life ands after first colostrum intake, administer 5mL of ProfeSTART PRO-Biotic GEL to establish the intestinal microflora in newborn calves. 5. Post colostrum feeding - ensure calves receive at least 500g of CALFCARE PREMIUM each day (375g for smaller breeds). For best results, and to avoid gastric discomfort, offer calves a 50:50 blend of colostrum and CALFCARE PREMIUM for 3 days prior to complete milk replacer feeding. 6. For coccidia prevention and control use ProfeLAC® GOLD or alternatively supplement daily milk with ProfeSTART® FortiMILK® GOLD - select the product that best suits your calf feeding system. 7. To aid digestion, gut health and natural production, supplement the milk in the first weeks of life with Calfcare Prebiotic Food (purified oligosaccharide nutrient) at 4g/10kg BWT/calf/day. Product Enquiries Call 1300 380 343 8. If scours or calf morbidity occurs offer Bovelyte®, to replace electrolytes and reverse dehydration, in between milk feeds for 2 days. Add ProfeSTART® PROBiotic POWDER or FortiMILK® GREEN to the milk at 10g per calf per day for 10 days to aid intestinal microbial balance and digestion. If scours persist beyond 2 days seek veterinary assistance. 9. Calves should be fed warm liquid feed during the first 3 weeks of life. Once daily feeding can be introduced from 14 days of age. Milk solids can be increased in cold weather to maintain calf health and welfare. For every 5°C drop in temperature, feed an extra 35-50g of powder /calf/day. 10. Fresh and good quality solid feed (calf starter) or muesli can be fed free choice from day 4 of life to aid rumen wall development. 11. Calves should be allowed access to some straw or a measured amount of hay (eg via hay feeder). Ensure the quantity of straw/hay provided or consumed does not interfere with calf starter intake. 12. Calves must have access to fresh clean water at all times to maintain hydration status and to stimulate calf starter intake. 13. Good quality hay should be available free choice when calf starter intake exceeds 500g/day (individual pens) or 800g/day (group housing). Introduction of roughage at this point enables enlargement of the rumen. 14. Weaning - Calves can be weaned when consumption of calf starter feed reaches 1kg/day over 3 consecutive days. Abrupt Weaning - reduce milk intake by 50% and feed once daily for one whole week then stop milk feeding altogether. Gradual Weaning - reduce daily milk intake by 0.5-1.0L for week one then reduce milk intake by another 0.5-1.0L for week two, and so on until milk feeding is finished. 15. Post Weaning - To avoid weight checks at weaning, drench with 10-15mL BioStart RUMINANT and ensure access to calf starter feed for another 3 weeks (minimum).
