Mack Urban names Roosevelt apartment project for Eleanor

Mack Urban has unveiled the design — and the name — for a 260-unit apartment project at 800 N.E. 67th St. in Roosevelt
near Interstate 5.
The seven-story complex is called Eleanor, after
former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt. The developer
said it wanted to honor her as a humanitarian and
an advocate for community connections.
Mack Urban said connecting to the community is
the reason it decided to go with two smaller
buildings rather than a large one. Each building is
designed to fit into its location, and they will share
a courtyard with a boardwalk that meanders
through the site. On the roof will be terraces with
city and mountain views.
“Mack Urban takes an interdisciplinary approach to
design and uses architecture to make connections
with the neighborhood,” said Jim Atkins, managing
director of Mack Urban, in a release. “Eleanor
exemplifies that approach. Roosevelt is a highly
walkable neighborhood and its proximity to Green
Lake makes it very leafy. Eleanor's grassy and
abundant landscape provides peaceful space with
fountains, swales and areas to linger if you are not
simply going from point A to point B.”

The apartments will have one- and two-bedroom
layouts geared toward couples and families. Some
will be affordable under the city's workforce
housing incentive program.
Two levels of underground parking for 200 cars are
planned, plus areas for bikes with kid trailers and
jogging baby strollers.
Tenants with pets will be able to keep Fido clean at
a dog wash station.
Mack Urban decided to not include retail or commercial space because the site is close to the Roosevelt Way Northeast retail
district.
Construction is expected to start by fall and the apartments will be ready by late spring 2016. Designs were approved in
January by the city.
Compass General Construction is the general contractor and Runberg Architecture Group is the architect.
Other members of the design team are Hewitt (landscape), Mercedes Fernandez Interior Design, Amy Arroyo Interior Design,
CPL (structural and civil), Rushing (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire), JRS (building envelope), O'Brien (sustainability),
SSA (acoustics) and Pangeo (geotechnical).
