Animal/Human IDs
Preferred format: CountryOrgTaxaAnimal(Human)#
For example, the first bat sampled in Tanzania would be TZAB0001 (Country=TZ, Org=A, Taxa=B, 0001 is the number)
If just 1 organization is working in a country, please use “A” for Org.
If there are 2 organizations working in a country, the leading partner Org. would use “A” and the other organization would use “B”.
Specimen IDs
Preferred format: AnimalIDSpecimenTypeMediumSpecimen
For example, (using the animal example noted above and the specimen code in the chart) TZAB0001 would be appended with (Specimen type code and the Specimen medium
code) If you collected 2 oral swabs, one stored in VTM, the other in Trizol, then they would be named TZAB0001.OSV and TZAB0001.OST. If in the unlikely event you collected
more than 1 specimen type in the same medium, you can add a number to the ID after the code was generated, for example TZAB0001.OST.1 and TZAB0001.OST.2
