Nearly 500 million gallons of gasoline and diesel products are distributed through the Virginia terminals annually, ensuring that fuel is available 365 days-a-year, no matter what the weather conditions. The terminal facilities play a central role in the community, providing full-time jobs to local residents and supporting local organizations. For example, employees support the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) and the Virginia Petroleum Council. Terminal employees are active in Fairfax County’s Fuel Assistance Program and support the Fairfax Fire Department. Terminal personnel also are involved in state and local emergency management programs to assist their communities during emergency situations. FACT: CITGO believes in fueling good. As a corporation in 2009, CITGO invested more than $80 million in contributions and thousands of dedicated volunteer hours in social development efforts aimed to create sustainable communities across the United States. The CITGO-Venezuela Heating Oil Program, which distributes millions of gallons of heating oil to low-income families each year, has become the largest energy assistance social program developed by any oil company in the country. Additionally, other significant programs include environmental restoration efforts at Petty’s Island in New Jersey and numerous education development initiatives in The South Bronx, New York. As the largest corporate sponsor of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), CITGO and its gasoline distributors and retail locations have raised more than $120 million since 1986, including $11 million in 2009. Additionally in 2009, FuelingGood, the CITGO consumer-driven Web site geared toward rewarding good works in local communities was launched. Through this effort, six worthy charities received a year’s worth of gas money and 30 runners-up were awarded $50 CITGO Gift cards. FACT: CITGO is committed to local communities. Each CITGO station is locally owned and operated. Local stations support their communities with jobs and taxes as well as with a wide range of community and philanthropic activities. To help ensure local communities have the support they need when natural disasters strike, CITGO provides fuel to the terminals right before and after hurricane strikes and delivers additional supplies to the locally owned CITGO stations on key evacuation routes. Furthermore, CITGO provides 100 percent reimbursement to CITGO station operators for the purchase of generators to ensure customers and emergency services receive fuel even if the power is out.
