NOTES FROM THE BOARD
Greetings from the Board. May everyone have a healthy and happy New
Year.
DECORATING AT 37 ELLEN STREET
Irene Turnbull of Turnbull Interiors will be conducting a presentation for the
residents of 37 Ellen Street. She will be describing the design and plan of
approach for upgrading the appearance of the entrance way, the long first
floor hallway, and the individual corridors in our building. The meeting will be
held on January 5th in the Ellen Room at 7:00 pm. Everyone is encouraged to
attend to see the changes that are proposed.

CHRISTMAS PARTY
Seventy-five Nautica residents enjoyed a delicious Christmas dinner on
December 9th. The Kempenfelt Room looked very festive and everyone had a
great time. Thanks to Wildwood Catering for the dinner and to the
Knowles/Woolsey Remax Team for the complimentary wine. Santa arrived
with gift vouchers donated by local restaurants. Thank you to those
restaurants: Beaches Fine
Market Grill, British Arms, CasaMia Restaurant, Hooters,

SOCIAL COMMITTEE
NOTE: Residents of both towers are welcome to join in all social events. If anyone in either tower wishes to

ACTIVITIES NOW RUNNING:
Book Club: All book lovers are encouraged to come out and discuss their favourite books on the second
Tuesday of every month. Perhaps you have found a gem in our library which you would like to share
with others. Contact Jean Wright at 705-252-8304.
Investment Group: The Nautica Investment Group has reconvened after the summer break at a new
time – 7:00 PM -- in the Ellen room on the second Wednesday of the month. New members are
welcome. Contact George McKay at 705 767 3754 or e-mail at [email protected] .
Movie Nights: Anyone wanting to use the TV in the Ellen Room, please contact the Superintendent to
arrange use of the remote control.

Rama Trip: Join the residents of Grand Harbour on the second Wednesday of the month, 9:30 am to
approximately 4:00 pm. $5.00 includes bus, lunch, and tip for the driver. For more information, contact
Jan at 705-739-9649.
Yoga: The Yoga group class continues to meet on Tuesdays at 9:30 am. A new class has been added on
Friday mornings, also at 9:30 am. The cost for the morning class is $30.00 for 6 weeks. If you wish to
drop in for a class, the cost is $10.00. For more information, contact Tanya at 705-252-8455.
ACTIVITIES BEING PLANNED:
No activities are planned in the immediate future.
ACTIVITIES ON HOLD:
DINNER CLUB: Many in our group travel throughout the winter; therefore, our end-of-month dinners
will be suspended for now but check the message board on the 2nd floor for the next evening out or join
us after Happy Hour for a stroll or short drive to one of our many restaurants on or near Dunlop Street.
MISCELLANEOUS:
SOCIAL COMMITTEE MEETING: Winter Social Committee meetings will be held Monday, January
23rd, February 20th, March 26th, and April 23rd at 10:30 a.m. in the Conference Room.
BULLETIN BOARD: Any notices to be posted on the Bulletin Board in the Podium, please contact
Lynda at [email protected].
HAPPY HOUR: The Social Committee will provide snacks at Happy Hour consisting of chips, nuts,
pretzels, etc. If anyone wishes to provide hors d’oeuvres, please feel free to do so.
NAUTICA RESIDENTS DIRECTORY: The directory for the Nautica residents has been prepared
and distributed. Inclusion in the directory is voluntary and is distributed only to those who have
contributed their names and contact information. For further information, please contact the newsletter
editor, [email protected] .
FUNDS FOR SOCIAL COMMITTEE: Thanks to Steve and Deanna Clark for managing bottle returns
during the winter months. Please continue to contribute your Beer, Liquor and Wine bottles in the bins
provided. These funds will be used to provide snacks for Happy Hour and to off-set costs for special
events. Special thanks to the ten volunteers for helping with the bottles. To volunteer for future months,
please contact Lynda by e-mail at [email protected] or Steve Oaks at 705-727-4949.
The Social Committee will provide gas cards to those who volunteer to return the bottles.
Thank you to Lynda Taggart and the Committee – Colleen Attridge, Marion Cassell, Deanna Clark, Jean
Cornet, Joan Gelinas, Sharon Hill, Maureen Holmes, Jodi Kohal, Lois Lea, Nancy Pakulak, Sandy Pestill,
Kathleen White, and Jean Wright – for their work in planning and arranging all these activities for the

NEW YEAR’S EVE CELEBRATION
Forty- seven Nautica residents welcomed in the New
Year in the Kempenfelt Room. Everyone enjoyed the
good cheer and the plentiful food. The City of Barrie
fireworks at Heritage Park at midnight complemented
our festivities. Thanks to the Social Committee for
organizing the event and providing the food and
champagne.
