CONNALLY MIDDLE SCHOOL DRESS CODE GUIDELINES 2014-2015 REVISED 05/12/2014 The district’s dress code is implemented (Section D, page 7); therefore, students will be expected to follow the guidelines set forth by the district. Dress code standards are extended to extra-curricular activities held on the campus. A campus administrator will make the final decision on any questionable garment or questions regarding dress code violations. In an effort to promote a safe and positive school environment which is conducive to learning, the following will be enforced: The following guidelines apply to PANTS AND SKIRTS: Pants and skirts must be worn at the waist; no oversized pants or loose waistbands are permitted. No sagging in seat, dragging at hem or bagging in pant legs or waist (excess should not exceed 3 inches in slack width or 1 inch in waist). No rubber-banded ankles. Pants that do not fit at the waist will be considered in violation of dress code. No warm-ups, wind pants, sweat pants, elastic waistband, drawstring, sports pants, yoga pants, or tights. Capri pants should be no less than four inches below the bottom of the kneecap. No velvet, fleece, stretch materials or convertible/rip-aways. No pajama pants may be worn to school. No tight, form-fitting pants. No JEGGINGS or leggings. No clothing with holes, rips, tears, purposeful tears, or frayed edges is permitted. Shorts are prohibited for boys and girls. Skirts must be less than four inches above the center of the knee cap (slits must meet the same guideline.) The following guidelines apply to SHIRTS: Shirts should be clean, neat and orderly in appearance. Inappropriate, indecent, suggestive, low-cut, excessively tight, or distracting shirts may not be worn (i.e., sexual slogans, gangs, tobacco, violence, drugs or alcohol references.) All shirts must be worn appropriately. Baggy/shirts that hang below the buttocks are not permitted. No exposed midriffs, backs, or underwear (bras included.) Tank tops, spaghetti straps, halter tops, strapless, tube tops, camisoles, and/or see-through clothing are not allowed. Jackets/sweaters may not be worn to cover up a dress code violation. Undergarments are not to be worn as outerwear (for example: plain white undershirts, muscle shirts.) Pajama tops may not be worn as outerwear. The following guidelines apply to JACKETS and COLD WEATHER ATTIRE: Trench-style coats are not permitted. Jackets and coats should not be worn tied at the waist. Hoods, hats and gloves are not to be worn at any time on campus. The following guidelines apply to SHOES: Shoes must not have steel toes or cleats. Shoes/sandals must be supportive and have back straps. No strapless sandals, flip-flops, mules, house shoes, slippers or other types of slip-ons. OTHER dress code guidelines include the following: Hats, headgear, hoods, and bandannas are not to be worn on campus. Sunglasses are not to be worn inside the building. Hair must be neat and clean. Hairstyles, including hair that is dyed an unconventional color (i.e. green, purple, orange, fire red, etc.), etchings or spiked/Mohawk styles, are not permitted. Hair must not cover the eyes. Eyebrows may not be etched. Wallet chains, dog collars and large neck chains are prohibited due to safety concerns. Body piercing (other than the ears) is prohibited. Tattoos must not be visible at any time while on campus. There should be no ‘tagging’ or gang-style writing on any items in a student’s possession. 1 2
