Waterton Academy Trust School Parliament
On Monday 27th March, there is a meeting of the Waterton Academy Trust Parliament. Normanton Juniors will be
represented by Bradleigh (Prime Minister), Isobel (upper school representative) and Hanna (lower school
representative). Tia C (Year 6) will be clerking the meeting. A number of issues relating to school will be discussed,
including the possibility of a trust-wide art project. It is an excellent opportunity for children to have a say in their
education, and our representatives are great at putting their views across!
Stay & Learn sessions
It is getting to that time of year when we are due to hold our next round of ‘Stay & Learn’ sessions. We will be holding
them during the afternoon sessions. There is a whole school theme this time round, based on work planned by Mrs Tait
and Miss Lynskey. The lessons will be design and technology with a French twist, and promise to be a great deal of fun
for all involved!
Safeguarding Arrangements for ‘Stay & Learn’ sessions
The sessions will run from 1.00 – 3.00pm on the days below. For safeguarding reasons, the outside gates will remain
locked until 12.55pm (by which time all of the children will be safely inside the school building). At 12.55pm, the gates
will be opened and any visitors will be directed into the main entrance by a member of staff. Once inside the school
building, all visitors will be required to sign in, and will be given a copy of our safeguarding procedures to adhere to
whilst on the premises. Once the procedures are completed, visitors will be taken up to the relevant classes so that they
can enjoy spending their afternoon with their child/guardian/family member. We realise that these arrangements are
very stringent; however, at NJA we take our safeguarding responsibilities very seriously, and so I thank you in
anticipation of your support and understanding on these matters.

Year 6 - Monday 27th March (1.00 – 3.00pm)
Year 5 - Tuesday 28th March (1.00 – 3.00pm)
Year 4 - Wednesday 29th March (1.00 – 3.00pm)

Grandparents’ Morning
We will be holding our next Grandparents’ Morning on Wednesday 5th April for Years 3, 4 & 5. It will start at 8.30am
with refreshments served in the gym. During this time, visitors will be required to sign in, and will be given a copy of our
safeguarding procedures to adhere to whilst on the premises. Once the procedures are completed, grandparents will
then be taken up to their grandchild’s class where they will spend time with them until 10am. At 10am they will then be
taken into the hall where they will be served coffee and cakes, and the choir will perform for them. Finally, grandparents
will be taken back to the classes to spend the rest of their morning enjoying another activity with their grandchild and
their class. Grandparents’ Morning will end at 11.45am. We offer any grandparents who would like to attend a very
warm welcome!
Handball competition
We wish the best of luck to the Year 5/6 handball team taking part in an interschool competition at Crofton Academy on
Tuesday 28th March. Our sports teams have been putting in stronger and stronger performances this year, and it cannot
be long before we are victorious!
Class photographs
Class photographs will take place on the morning of Friday 31st March. These will take longer than in the past due to the
new Vista style that the photography company will be using, but this should lead to very high quality results! Keep an
eye out for updates on when the proofs will be going home on future newsletters.
Finally…
On Monday 22nd May, there will be a music-themed day arranged by Miss Lynskey, in which the whole school will be
taking par. This will involve making music instruments out of recycled materials. We would greatly appreciate if any
recyclable materials that would otherwise be thrown out (and could possibly be used to make instruments) could be
brought into school. This includes things such as toilet roll tubes, cardboard boxes and empty cans. Any children
bringing in any of these items should give them to Miss Lynskey and they will receive a You’ve Been Spotted token in
return. Thank you in advance for any contributions.
Have a great weekend!
