The Arrowhead Word WEEK 2! July 6 th – 10th The Word from David: It is amazing to be back at camp this summer! After the long, cold winter, nothing is better than being back on the sunny shores of Lake Simcoe. This summer we have had an awesome start. The weather has been (mostly) great, the staff are energetic and excited to be here and our campers are incredible and make all the months of planning so worthwhile. It is always rewarding to see kids get up on water skis for the first time, learning new dances, playing sports together and swimming in the lake. We can all agree that Camp Arrowhead truly is a great place to be! The campers are really loving our new Ski Boat and Docks. After years of tradition and experiences with the old docks and boat at Arrowhead, it has been cool to observe the excitement and care for all that is new these first few days! Speaking of new, it has be wonderful to meet all the new campers at Arrowhead this summer. I’m thrilled that they are here and have been making new friends and having so much fun this week. Whether or not your camper is attending week 1, I hope all Arrowhead families will be able to join us at the first Oneg Shabbat of the summer on July 3 starting at 6:00pm. Our theme is Happiness. It should be a great event and a wonderful way to kick off the summer. I know the campers have been working hard to practice their songs along with their staff and Rayna our music specialist. I hope to see you there! I hope your kids are having as much fun at camp as we are! See you in the sunshine! - David The Word on Canada Day: One of the best things about week one is celebrating Canada Day with all of our friends at Camp Arrowhead. Our office and staff and campers were all decked out in their Canada gear and the spirit was electrifying. In the afternoon, we had our first ever Canada Day Snowman Races. Cabins decorated their staff as snow-people and then the races began. After three thrilling races, everybody enjoyed Ice Cream Sandwiches! A great day was had by all. Happy Canada Day! Activities in Week 2: The week’s theme is: Movin’ & Groovin’ Week Tuesday July 7th: Optional Horseback Riding Trip Wednesday July 8th: 60’s, 70’s, 80’s Dress-up Day Thursday July 9th: July Overnight Looking ahead to week 3 – Hollywood Week, Staff vs Parent Baseball Game, Hollywood Dress-up Day The Word on the Waterfront: The waterfront staff jumped in to summer 2015 (and the lake) with both feet in! They were all excited to meet the campers, and to run their activities! Luke, Steph, Alan, Sam B., Riley had a busy week on swim. Their goal for the summer is: “to teach strokes, work on technique, give knowledge on rules and regulations, and have fun.” Ryan and Jared had an exciting week on ski - helping campers with their first skis of the summer, or maybe even their very first ski ever! Their goal is: “to have every camper skiing or wakeboarding by the end of the summer.” Zach had a great first week on stand up paddle board (SUP) and canoe. “My summer goal is to make sure everyone knows what SUP.” Mike and Aubrey had a fun week on sail. Their goal for the summer is: “to teach campers to read the wind and be able to calmly and safely handle a boat by themselves.” Sam had a fantastic week at kayak. “My goal for the summer is to make sure that every day on a kayak is the best day on kayak.” The waterfront staff are all excited for week 2, and hope to continue having fun in Lake Simcoe (and maybe for the water to get a little bit warmer)! The Word around camp: First impressions from some of our new campers: Emma L., age 12 “I love being at Camp on a lake, even though its cold, I love the activities” Lauren S., age 12 “I was able to experience overnight activities without sleeping over” Veronique K., age 13 “It was really fun, everyone knows each other and you are able to make friends easily, and I like all the activities” Avi K., age 6 “I really like seeing all the trees growing, and I really like canoeing because it is very fun”!
