List of songs and activities from workshop.

Hello song- singing to each child individually.

Days of the week song- repetitive song which can be set to familiar tune- sing about what
the children are going to do next.

I’m thinking of somebody- catchy song describing people in the group- useful to encourage
self awareness and self other awareness.

Name discrimination song- there was a boy that had a name (tune of Bingo)

Pass the tambourine- ocean drum with no noise.

Imagination game- give each child a short task- e.g. find an instrument that you shake, find
an instrument that makes a loud sound etc. Encourages independent thinking as well as
social interaction.

Coming round the circle with the drum- (tune- coming round the mountain) encourages
social interactions, turn taking, peer interactions and helps develop self esteem.

The musical box goes around (tune- here we go loopy lou)-have a selection of objects inside
to prompt song singing e.g star, bus, spider etc. Encourages turn taking, develops
anticipation, promotes attention to task etc.

Eye chose you- pass the clap using eye contact.

Musical ball goes around where is it going to S-T-O-P (tune- here we go loopy lou)
Encourages turn taking and accepting when out of the game.

Encourage expressive language by encouraging the children to sing along to familiar tunes
using open vowel- ah, eh, I, la sounds.

Movement to music- use coloured scarves to move to music, great for encouraging children
to cross the mid-line, and developing balance and co-ordination.

Movement to music using the parachute- move the parachute to match the time of the
music- chose music with 3 clear sections such as Lord of the dance, River Dance etc.

Listening and discrimination games- ‘whos got the bells’ have a pupil stand out-side the
circle and listen for a familiar sound such as bells, shakers etc. Ask them to return to the
circle and find which peer is shaking. Make it harder by adding two or more sounds.

Body awareness- See if you can tap you’re… ask the children which body part they could tap
next.

Encouraging social interactions- find a friend and shake their hand (tune of skip to my lou)
Transition songs

Tidy up song- (tune this old man)

Bottom on you seats (tune of jelly on the plate)

If you’re ready for music clap your hands (tune if you’re happy)

Dinner time- dinner dinner dinner dinner, dinner dinner dinner dinner time (tune of
batman)

Wash you’re dirty hands (tune knees up mother brown)

This is the way I walk to Music- (tune here we go around the mulberry bush)

Splish splash I am taking a bath

Getting dressed- hickory dickory dock, let’s put on our socks, one on the right, one on
the left, hickory dickory dock.

Brush your teeth- brush brush brush your teeth, brush them every day, clean clean clean
your teeth to keep them nice and white. (tune row row row)

Walking songs- lets go for a little walk..

Tune- head shoulders, We are walking to the car to the car, we are walking to the car, to
the car, then we’re going to grandma’s house, we are walking to the car.
