Free Will / Determinism – Ken West Are we, as human beings, free—i.e., are we in control of our behavior? Or is it better to think of human behavior as determined entirely by factors outside of our control? Arguments for both views will be explored. If there is sufficient time, a brief discussion of whether moral responsibility requires free will will be included. Expectations of Student Behavior – Trisha Dandurand, Rexann McKinley, Jennifer Huggins, Jennifer Pecora, Amy Porter Expectations for student behavior vary from professor to professor; however, in many cases students must figure out individual instructor expectations with little to no guidance. During this breakout session, the necessity for clear expectations will be discussed, a group of instructors will share their expectations for student behavior, we will discuss how to disseminate expectations to students, and participants will begin developing their own list of expectations. Order in the Court, or How I Spent My Summer Vacation at the U.S. Supreme Court – Kris Condon In June 2013, KCC was one of two community colleges selected for the first time to participate in the United States Supreme Court Summer Institute for Teachers in Washington, D.C. For five days, I learned about the Court’s inner workings and how the Institute is extending its influence on civics education to the community college. Come and learn more about the issues facing us as we teach our students to be more civically engaged in this interactive presentation. . . . Let’s see how much you know about the Court!
