H A LLO W E E N M Y T H S Halloween is one of the most popular and celebrated holidays in the world, especially for children who relish being frightened out of their minds by ghosts, goblins, witches, warlocks, fairies and demons, and even more importantly receiving one of the biggest stashes of candy and goodies. As a matter of fact, Halloween is one of the three top candy selling seasons of the year. Well, the question is what is really being celebrated? Do the parents know or care as long as they can sneak their share of favorite treats out of the children’s bags as they are “so called” checking for the safety of the treats to be consumed? Just like all the many brands of candy and unorthodox costumes, Halloween is a peculiar mix of myths, superstitions and customs and much, much more than meets the eye!! According to D. J. Herda in a first book about Halloween for children, the earliest celebrations of Halloween began with the Celts. Other authors, including Dr. Malachi Z York as well as Biblical teachings agree that the Celts were the offspring of Canaan, the grandson of Noah who resided in the Caucus Mountains (Koran 18:8, 18:28: Lev. 14:33-34), two thousand years ago in England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and France. During that time, their religious leaders were called Druids who were a religious order of high priests. Druid means “knowing the oak tree”. Being both political and religious, this special group served as ambassadors, took part in battles, and were concerned with magic, astrology, and the study of the universe. Becoming a Druid required long and extensive training. Their rituals included both animal and human sacrifices. One ritual honored Samhaim, lord of the dead on October 31 and November 1. Ancient Celtic legend states that Samhaim knew how to control the spirits of the dead, either causing them to have restful peace or go onto a wild frenzy. So, on October 31, the Celtics thought Samhaim summoned the souls of the dead to pay for their sins for the previous year by putting their bodies into the souls of animals. Also, during this vigil, all kinds of spirits, goblins, and fairies were thought to roam the earth. Here are some forms of the word Samhaim: H A LLO W EEN MYTHS 1). 2). 3). 4). 5). 6). 7). 8). Samm-to poison, penetrate Saam-poisoning or infecting with poison Samuwm-A hot wind, also signifies death Masmuwm-poison, hit by a wind called Samuwm Samma- In Aramic (Hebrew) language Shem means “name”. Samuel- (late Latin; Greek) Shamuel- (Hebrew) Sam Hill- a term for hell In addition to the above forms, the national symbol of the United States, Uncle Sam, is closely related to this word Samma. The term Uncle Sam originated as an unfriendly nickname for the government during the War of 1812 A.D. Citizens in Vermont and Upper New York opposed his costume decorated with stars and stripes, white hair, chin whiskers like the evil one’s ram, swallow-tail coat, vest and tall hat. They thought Uncle Sam was not just depicted as evil but was, in actuality, evil. Celtics also worshipped their own sun god, Baal, whom on October 31, they honored for giving the blessing for the harvest. The word Baal simply means “lord, husband, and man”. They believed that their worship strengthened the sun god who would combat the darkness and cold of winter. This ritual required animal sacrifices to the sun on November 1st, the Celtic’s New Year. Romans honored the goddess Pomona, the mistress of fruits and gardens whom they pictured as a beautiful maiden with arms filled with fruits and a crown of apples on her head. They laid out apples and nuts to honor and thank her for their good harvests. Celebrations with games, races, and various events were held throughout the entire day and night. When the Romans conquered the Gauls, Celtic people of what is now France, they brought their customs with them, thus, celebrations honoring both Pomona and Samhaim were held at the same time. H A LLO W EEN MYTHS Witchcraft soon emerged as an organized cult opposed to the Roman Catholic Church. Halloween became known as the Night of the Witch when the devil and all his followers, including witches, warlocks, and demons gathered to mock the coming of the Church’s festival of All Saints’ Day on November 1st by performing unholy acts. Constantine, the Roman Emperor during the 4th Century declared Christianity as lawful, but it spread slowly because of the pagan beliefs, rituals, and practices by the masses. The church had established November 1st as All Saint’s Day or All Hallow’s Day, so the saints who did not have a church holiday could be honored. They hoped the pagan rituals of Pomona and Samhaim would disappear, but people around the world continued these celebrations on the evening before All Hallows Day. Germans thought these demons met at Brochen Mountains, Swiss gathered at Blacksbey, and the French demons assembled on the Forest of Ardennes. For the English, any church, abbey or monument served as their meeting place. Most people, during that time, did not want to be Christians. They were comfortable with their pagan gods and their Old Religion; therefore, the church compromised with them to win them over to Christianity. The church and state saw the religion of the horned deity or witchcraft as a threat to their power. During Medieval times the peasants and serfs were slaves, toiling night and day for the monks and noblemen. The slaves staged several uprisings, but they each were quickly suppressed. They were dissatisfied with the church because it was restrictive, hypocritical and wanted to control and regulate not only the slaves but every human emotion. The church simply wanted to dominate and conquer large groups of nations and people to satisfy their own greed for earthly possessions and make themselves rich. All Hallow’s Day soon became All Hallow’s Even. All Hallow’s Day was for religious thought and church services, while All Hallow’s Even was an evening or night of magic and superstition. Eventually, Hallow’s Even was shortened to Hallowe’en and now Halloween, so a combination of religious customs and pagan customs evolved. All Saints and All Souls’ Day honored H A LLO W EEN MYTHS the dead and their spirits. Pomona was a symbol of the harvest, and the vigil of Samhain brought goblins, black cats, evil spirits, fortune telling and magic. Another custom included waving flaming pitchforks in the air to singe the evil brooms of witches if they might be flying low. In the United States and most of the world, Halloween today is a fun holiday of witches, black cats, owls, jack-o-lanterns, ghosts, goblins, bats, vampires, werewolves, and anything you can imagine, but are any of these Halloween symbols real? Among the Celts, Cats were dreaded as supernatural beings. They believed that cats and humans transformed into animals by evil powers. Because of this, cats were victims of Samhaim fires. The black cat is associated with witchcraft. The evil one is believed to have appeared at the witches’ sabbat in the shape of cats, bucks, oxen, dogs, and transformed into black or gray cats. Cats were considered true symbols of Halloween. With its arched back and hair that could stand on end, yellow eyes glaring, it represented a true symbol of the spirit of evil. In actuality, cats are intelligent, alert, independent and powerfully muscled with an air of sophistication. They were first domesticated in Egypt to keep the rodents out of the storehouses. Egyptians also worshipped a Cat-headed deity called Sekhmet, also worshipped by the Ancient Greeks and Romans, who ruled over witches, wizards, and ghosts. Ancient Romans considered Owls creatures of evil, thus, establishing them as an excellent Halloween symbol. It was believed that witches could transform themselves into owls. The Spanish word for owl “Bruga” also means witch. Owls are nocturnal and their eyes are objects of fear, mystery, and legend. They also possess flexible feathers that allow them to fly silently and undetected. All are birds of prey, feeding on small mammals, birds, fish and insects. Their Eerie Shrieks are enough to send anyone, who comes close, on a swift journey in the opposite direction. Another Halloween symbol said to have started in Ireland is the grinning Jack-o-Lantern, the face of a pumpkin. Legend indicates that the first one H A LLO W EEN MYTHS was a turnip that held a burning chunk of coal from hell. The burning or lights were believed to be the souls of the sinners who were condemned to walk the earth until the end of time. The legend came from an old Irish story about a man named Jack who was a stingy, mean, and selfish man, so he knew the devil had come to claim his soul. Stingy Jack liked to play tricks on the evil one and tricked him into promising not to claim his soul, but Jack wasn’t as clever as he thought. Eventually his body wore out and when he arrived at the gates of hell the devil shouted, “Go away! You tricked me into promising not to claim your soul and I keep my word.” Jack, having been rejected at the gates of heaven and hell told the devil he could never find his way back to earth, so the devil threw him a chunk of coal from the furnaces of hell. Jack caught the glowing ember and put it inside a turnip he was eating. He has been wandering the earth with this first jack-o-lantern ever since, and the pumpkin, being the perfect representation of this, has also been used during Halloween ever since. Now the Goblins and their counter parts banshees, leprechauns, fairies, brownies, and pixies were evil spirits who were believed to participate in the Samhain Festival and later on Halloween. The name Mormon means “A spectre, goblin, ghoul, spook or orge” and is of German origin. Goblin, from the French language, was given to these little people. According to history, a tribe of small, dark-skinned people 4 1/2 feet tall were the enemies of the Celts. The Celts were also associated with the legendary gnomes. Gnomes come from the Greek word “Genomous” meaning earth dweller. They live in caves and work with stones, germs, and metals. Many of the stories about these little people claim they were actually Extraterrestrials who, lacking a digestive enzyme, appeared green in color. They are called the tree and forest spirits. Because of its blood-sucking nature, the Bat has become a major Halloween symbol. Due to the unnatural mating between the bird and the rat, bats resulted. They have the fastest heartbeat of any mammal, 200 beats per minute. The vampire bat drinks more than its weight in blood in one night. When the bat finds its prey, it induces a razor-sharp slit from which it sucks H A LLO W EEN MYTHS the blood. Bats usually attack the noses and toes of humans, and have a strong association with evil and witchcraft. Bat’s blood is said to be used in ointment made by witches. They are the vehicle for the souls of witches and a cause of damage and destruction. Vampires, like Dracula, and Werewolves, like the Wolf Man are Halloween symbols that have instilled terror and fear in the hearts of the young and old for many years invoking countless nightmares because of their inhuman behavior and menacing appearance. The question is, “Are they fact or fiction? Read on and decide for yourself. In France, the wolf earned the reputation of a “supernatural creature” due to its cunning ability to escape annihilation during its two year killing spree of terror. It was called the “Beast of Geveaudan”, a huge monstrous wolf that plagued a remote part of France during the eighteenth century, killing more than sixty men. There is a rare disease, lyncanthropy, which is a scientific name for a condition which literally means “wolf man”. Victims of this disease do not turn into wolves, but display beastlike behavior: snarling, growling, running recklessly around, and savagely attacking men and animals in a gruesome way. Lyncanthropy struck most often on the night of the full moon, originally called Luna, and Kingu when people start acting strange and are referred to as Luna-Tics, which is traced back to the madman responsible for the creation of the moon. During the dark and middle ages it was believed that the victims of this disease could, at will, transmute themselves into real wolves. Also, witches were said to be able to change themselves into wolves and other creatures by simply rubbing a magic ointment, given to them by the evil one, on their bodies. “Homo-Ferus” (Wolf-Child) is a human usually abandoned at infancy and raised by a She-Wolf, and if not rescued early, will lack human behavioral characteristics and take on those of the beast, eating raw meat, walking on all fours, often unable to stand erect, and lack the speech patterns necessary to communicate with other humans. They howl, snarl, growl and H A LLO W EEN MYTHS One idea is that this creature of darkness evolved from All Hallows, All Saint Day, and the Celtic’s Samhain Festival stories. They believed that a person without proper burial would not stay permanently. Hemophilia is a form of Vampirism. Albinos have a disease which caused a lack of pigmentation in the cells and must undergo a complete blood transfusion at birth. The need for blood is a natural for them because they do not have the necessary factors for clotting or the salt needed for reproduction, so blood transfusions must continue throughout their lives. This is vampirism. Has anyone ever questions why for a simple blood test, four tubes are needed? Why? Where is all the extra blood going? The Albino man’s blood bank is just a sophisticated way of getting the blood he needs and another form of vampirism and vampirism is just another form of demonism which the evil one, himself, has introduced into all societies to win over the souls of people. “Vampires actually exist and are walking the earth today,” says a noted exorcist for The Church of England. “Believe me, vampires are real-I’ve encountered three of them,” declared Reverend Donald Omand of Devon, England. “I am convinced a tiny number of people today are vampires who must drink blood. The three I encountered were in mental hospitals, but I think their problem went much deeper; I believe they were possessed by the Evil One.” The most famous vampire, Dracula, is rooted in reality, and other professionals concur that it is a severe form of mental disturbances. Last, is the most popular symbol of Halloween, the Witch, depicted as an old, decrepit, bent over woman wearing a black hat and cloak, seated on a broom with her favorite side-kick, The Black Cat. That picture is only imaginary as a witch can be your next door neighbor, your teacher, banker, or the friendly bus driver. Witchcraft is as old as mankind and derived from an Anglo-Saxon word, “Wit” which means wise, and consists of spells, magic and sorcery. It is based on Ancient Pagan religions that worshipped the element of nature. Two deities are worshipped: a horned male and female deities with various names such as Aphrodite, Diana, Bridget, and H A LLO W EEN MYTHS cannot tolerate daylight. In the early 1970’s, a wolf-child was discovered in the jungles of Sri Lanka (Ceylon). Wolf-Children are commonly found in India and Europe. Werewolves also originated from a group of Extraterrestrials from the Orion Galaxy who are called Shaggies and completely covered in fur from head to toe. Romulus and Remus were among the earliest record of humans raised by wolves. It is fabled that they established the Roman empire. When the two brothers asked for a sign from the gods to tell them who would be the founder of the new city, Romulus was chosen, resulting in a violent quarrel which ended in Romulus killing Remus, thus, the famed Roman empire was derived from the Latin name, Romulus. Vampire, or Dracula, is another Halloween symbol that is a product of ancient myths and legends. The word Vampire means “The Son of Drac”. A Drac, Dracos, or Dragon is the name of a species of reptilians from the Dracos Constellation which is shaped like a dragon and the letter Zeta in Greek. One idea is that this creature of darkness evolved from All Hallows, All Saints’ Day, and the Celtic’s Samhain Festival stories. They believed that a person without proper burial would not stay put permanently. Hemophilia is a form of Vampirism. Albinos have a disease which causes a lack of pigmentation in the cells, and they must undergo a complete blood transfusion at birth. They need for blood is natural for them because they do not have the necessary factors for clotting or the salt needed for reproduction, so blood transfusions must continue throughout their lives. Witchcraft is as old as mankind and derived from an Anglo-Saxon word, “Wit” which means wise, and consists of spells, magic, and sorcery. It is based on Ancient Pagan religions that worshipped the elements of nature. Two deities are worshipped: a horned male and female deities with various names such as Aphrodite, Diana, Bridget, and Persephone. The female deities ruled during the summer months of the year and represented fertility. On Halloween the horned deity, Gernunos or Pan rules and is worshipped during the long winter months. He is represented by a ram, bull, or goat. Pan was considered the cause of sudden unreasonable terror that occurred sometimes in man and beast. This terror or Pan-ic was named after him. The term Pan is also used for when the sun rises and sets for the full daylight or Christian sunrise and set. “Set” is an Egyptian name for the Evil One. During Medieval times, magic and witchcraft were practiced freely until 14 A.D. when Emperor Augustus Caesar banned the craft, but healing the sick or preparing love potions was still allowed. In the tenth century A.D. King Edgar of England admitted that witchcraft was still more popular than Christianity. At that point in time, believers in the horned deity became known as witches. In 1970, there was a public, “Witch-In”. That same year, the seventh seal was broken and truth was made manifest. It marked the coming of the H A LLO W EEN MYTHS reformer. Having a public “Witch-in” means the evil one is no longer hiding the truth about himself, for the truth has been revealed. Witchcraft is his religion and he is letting it be known. His Sabbat is used by satanic worshippers from all over the world and is held mainly four times a year: February 2 is candlemass, August 1st is Lammastide Day, April 31st is May Eve, and the most well-known is October 31, Halloween. After taking a closer look and examination of this October 31st holiday, hopefully you found it is dangerous to life and property and has its roots deeply embedded in centuries of Pagan practices. A Pagan, according to Webster’s New World Dictionary, is one who is not Muslim, Jew, or Christian, a heathen or peasant, one of no religious background. During this holiday, children wear horrible costumes and masks which conjure up The Jinn (Evil forces). Bags and bags of treats they receive are sometimes filled with razorblades, needles, and poison. Dark colored costumes have been the cause of numerous “hit and run” accidents. Gangs of reckless youth roam about molesting, assaulting, and sometimes killing just for fun, and many unattended children disappear. Although Halloween obviously originated from centuries of old pagan practices and worship, people still insist on participating in the vices of people who have no souls and roamed in tribes thousands of years ago. Just because this is the 21st century does not mean that their celebrations of heathen holidays and feast are over. (See Lev. 20:6) You must realize this malevolent being is real and not playing around and wants your soul and is not trying to hide it! “The sooner you wake up and realize that witchcraft is not dead, it has just been sophisticated and cunningly directed at you, the sooner you will be well on your way to being released from the clutches of the Evil One. It is time for you to stop observing the Evil One’s Holiday such as Halloween, and sending your innocent children to ‘trick-or-treat’ (Begging for food that was once left to roaming dead spirits). It is time for you to realize who you are, who the Evil One is, and to come home. The truth is here, and there is not going to be any excuses H A LLO W EEN MYTHS accepted on the Last Day, such as, ‘I didn’t know’.” The Evil One, Samael, cannot lead you astray if you don’t follow him.” (Excerpt from “Who Do You Serve?” pp126-127, Scroll #22, The Evil One’s Sabbath.)
