PARENTS/CAREGIVERS AND EMERGENCY PHONE NUMBERS Please let us know if your contact phone numbers have changed over the holidays. It is imperative that we have up-to-date phone numbers so we are able to contact you in case your child is unwell or has suffered an injury and needs to either go home or get medical help. STATIONERY All students should have received a copy of their class stationery list; if not we have copies available at the office or you can ask your childs teacher for one. We would really appreciate it if students could get their stationery as soon as possible please. Teachers would appreciate it if all students were able to start work in their books next week. MONEY AT SCHOOL If your child needs to bring money to school to catch the bus home please remind them that they need to leave it at the office where it can be kept safe. WHEELS AT SCHOOL We are happy for children to bring their scooters, skates, skateboards or bikes to school. Children do need to have a helmet if they are riding their bike. Children are allowed to use these items during the break times. The children can leave them at school and we will ensure they are locked away safely. Welcome back to school for 2017. I hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas/New Year holiday break and that children are refreshed and enthusiastic about another year. Welcome back to our staff who have been busy over the last few weeks preparing for the term. Welcome to Mrs Desiree Pole who is teaching our Year 7 & 8 students in Room 6 and Mrs Sarah Morrison who is teaching our Year 2 & 3 students with Mrs Peters in Room 1. Our staff are looking forward to getting to know your children and you, so that they can work in partnership with you to educate your children. Welcome to our new children and their families; we have had 15 students enrol at Paerata this week. We hope that your time with the school will be a happy and rewarding one. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to talk to your child’s teacher. We are looking forward to another positive year at Paerata School. Luke Thompson Principal SOME FRIENDLY REMINDERS TO OUR EXSITING FAMILES AND SOME USEFUL INFORMATION FOR OUR NEW FAMILIES BEFORE SCHOOL Students arriving before 8:30am need to wait at the front of the school, they need to keep away from the drop-off area and are welcome to sit on the seats by the netball court. If it is raining students are allowed to wait under the shade structure. LATE FOR SCHOOL Any students arriving at school after 8:50am need to report to the office before going to class please. ABSENT FROM SCHOOL Please notify the school early each morning that children are going to be away stating the reason for the absence. An answer phone operates for your convenience. Alternatively you can send an email to [email protected]. If we have not heard from you by 10am you will receive a text through our student attendance system. AFTER SCHOOL Just a reminder that at Paerata School we finish at the earlier time of 2:45. We would also like to remind you that the area at the top of the driveway is for dropping off and picking up children. If you arrive before the bell in the afternoon please park in the car park area. Parents are most welcome to wait on the seats by the netball court but please keep clear of the classrooms. We find students are distracted when seeing familiar faces outside their classroom! When the bell has gone teachers bring their classes to the front of the school, then as you arrive we are happy for children to walk along the area next to the garden and get into your car. If you are parked in the car park area your children will need to walk along the path, down to the crossing where it is safe to cross and then get into your car. These measures have been put in place to help keep your children safe, thank you for your support with this. CATCHING THE PUBLIC BUS A teacher will be on duty at the Paerata bus stop at 8am every morning to cross students over the main road and railway crossing. If you need your child/ren to catch the 3:30 bus in the afternoon then we are happy for students to remain at school until 3:15 then they can walk down to catch the bus. COLLECTING STUDENTS EARLY FROM SCHOOL If you need to collect your child early from school please come to the office and sign them out. If you know you will need to collect your child early on a Friday (we have our school assemblies from 2pm) please either ring the school or ask your child to let their teacher know. This way we can ensure they do not go to assembly and will not cause a disruption during assembly when they need to leave. NAMING CLOTHES Please make sure your child’s clothes are named, unfortunately children don’t seem to recognise their clothes when we hold them up at assembly. If your child does lose something at school please come to the office and we can point you in the direction of the lost property. HATS During Terms 1 & 4 students wishing to play outside need to wear a hat during morning tea and lunch times. If they do not have a hat on they will only be allowed to play under the shade canopy. JEWELLERY For health and safety reasons students are to wear small studs or sleepers only. If your child has a significant piece of jewellery you wish them to wear then you need to complete a disclaimer form. You need to see your child’s teacher or Mr Thompson for a copy of the form BRAIN BREAK This is around 10am during the first block. The children have something to eat, as often it has been awhile since they had breakfast. The food we encourage them to eat at Brain Break is a snack of either: fruit, nuts, or a sandwich. As we are part of the ‘fruit in schools’ teachers will often use the fruit supplied for their Brain Break. SWIMMING We are lucky we have a swimming pool and our classes get to swim every day. It is an important part of the curriculum, and it is important children know how to swim, and be confident in water. Children need to have their togs everyday. If children have a medical reason for not swimming then we would like a note from the parents, if children are too unwell to swim then they are probably to unwell to be at school. Thank you parents for your support with this. PTO
