Dear Parents
It was lovely to see so many parents and families at the King’s House
Sports Grounds last Friday for our annual sports day. We were blessed
with ideal weather – not too hot at the start and a bit of cloud cover –
which made for a great morning of races and events. The Nursery set
things off with their wonderful array of races and then the Junior
Department, with a new round robin of events, and the Senior Department took their turn. A big thank you to so many parents for turning up
and supporting and well done to all the boys and particularly Churchill,
retaining both cups.
There was a wonderful array of colour all across the school on
Wednesday with the boys in their Red, White and Blue mufti to mark the
Queen’s 90th birthday. Thank you too for all the donations that came in
on the day for the Summer Fair, which takes place on Saturday in the
Senior Department and runs from 12-3pm. It promises to be a great
event again and there are some lovely super prizes in both the raffle
and the silent auction.
A number of our Year 7 pupils entered the Orleans House Gallery Tweet
Tweet art competition earlier this term. The boys did well and particular
Drawing of a Roy Lichtenstein artwork by Jamie
praise must go to Freddie Compton whose picture was commended. Some
other boys have had their work tweeted as part of the exhibition process.
Planning Application – we wanted to let parents know that we have submitted a planning application to extend the theatre into a
multi-purpose hall and create some larger classroom areas. This is obviously early stages but the plan would improve the teaching
facilities we currently have.

Royal birthday celebrations!
Dear Parents
It seems to have been a week of celebrations. On Wednesday we all came to school in red, white and blue and
donated a soft toy to the tombola. Thank you for your generous donations, I know some of them were quite hard to
part with! On the same day we also celebrated the Queen’s birthday. Butterfly class astounded us with their lovely
detailed portraits of her Majesty; they will soon be up on the wall, so do come and have a look. In Caterpillar Class
they made very regal crowns and listened to some music. On hearing the National Anthem playing three year old
Hattie was amazed; “It sounds like the music from the football” she told us. Whilst listening to Land of Hope and
Glory Grace made a connection we had not thought of, “That music sounds like George and the dragon “she
announced. Super listening skills Caterpillars!
We are aware there is a very special celebration on Sunday, Fathers Day. With this in mind both classes have been
very busy painting, cutting and gluing. There is a surprise on the way and we hope you are all spoilt!
I want to say a heart felt thank you for the amazing amount of money you raised for Rwanda, the total so far
stands at a magnificent £840.20. This will make a real difference and we are already planning our teaching and
gathering resources. On the 6th July the rest of the school is dressing up in Rwanda colours and bringing a small
donation. Butterfly class have their end of year performance so will not be participating. It will be optional for the
Caterpillars as we are aware you have already done so much.
I hope you all have a relaxing weekend.

Notes from the Junior Department
Dear Parents
There have been so many important events in the last week that I am going to struggle to fit them all into one newsletter, but here goes… We were
so lucky to be bathed in sunshine for Sports Day on Friday and to have so much support from family members. The boys put on an excellent display
of sportsmanship and were commended assembly on Monday for the way they conducted themselves. Thank you to the Nursery Staff who did a
wonderful job of keeping score and judging the places for us on the race track. The changes we made this year seemed to go down well, enabling
our boys to participate in the long jump and javelin as well at the usual flat races, which kept them busy throughout. The following morning Y3 had
a cricket match at home against Donhead which brought three wins out of the four games, so congratulations to all the boys for that. In Music, we
were treated to a terrific Tea Concert on Tuesday and a super Strings Concert on Wednesday. It was excellent to see some of our younger boys
performing for the first time and to hear Guy in Y2 playing a piece he had written himself. 1T entertained us on Wednesday with their assembly all
about the wonders of nature and Mrs T had has all up, singing and dancing to Cliff Richard’s Summer Holiday to finish off. Year 1 were treated to an
author visit from Zeeny, Roshan’s aunty, who brought in her magical fiction picture book about how the rainbow was made. On Thursday 2D put on
a thought-provoking assembly in anticipation of Father’s Day, where they read out extracts they had written about what their father means to them
and showed some beautiful portraits they had drawn. 2D also had a super surprise this week – a letter from Buckingham Palace thanking them for
their wonderful birthday card. Their card was full of super colouring of Queen Elizabeth II, which they surrounded with all the facts they had learnt
about her reign to date. Thank you to everyone for your generous toy donations for the Summer Fair. We had great fun dressing in red, white and
blue and are now well-stocked for Saturday.
Parking Complaint
Regrettably, I need to report a complaint from a neighbour about a King’s House parent in a Porche who parked across his driveway on Thursday
morning. Please could the person concerned refrain from doing this again.

Year 7 Trip to Aquae Sulis
On Wednesday 8th of June, Year 7 went on a trip to the Roman
Baths. We met at school at 6:50 and started our trip to Bath. We
got there at about 10:00 and went straight into the museum.
Firstly we went on an Audio Guide tour around the museum.
We each got our own handset and when we were walking
round the rooms there would be numbers which we would type
in, and that would tell us about a specific object in a room or
the room in general. The first place we visited was the main
bath itself. We went on the balcony and looked over the bath.
The water was murky and you could see the steam coming off
it. Next we went underground to see what surrounded the
baths. There were still remains from 2000 years ago like the
pavements and parts of the pillars that held up the temples.
After that we visited the hot room (Caldarium). We saw the
remains of the plunge pools and floor. Next to this was the
warm room (Tepidarium). Again here we saw the jagged floor
that still remained from 2000 years ago. We also visited the
changing room (Apodyterium) and the cold room (frigidarium).
We saw the Hypocaust. This supplied all the heat for the hot
room and the warm room. We saw the remains of all the
tunnels. After this we saw the spring. This was the main reason why these Roman Baths were built here because to find a warm spring is very rare and
on the surface this had an average temperature of 46 – 49 degrees Celsius. This is why the Romans chose to build a bath house right on this specific
spot. Then we went through to see the bath at the ground level. There was a fountain next to the bath where we were able to feel and taste the fresh
water.
Secondly we went to room where one of the guides talked to us about the history of the baths and he told us about what some of the tablets meant.
For example one of them was about Emperor Claudius ordering this specific bathhouse to be built. He also told us people threw curse tablets into a
sacred spring so that the goddess Sulis Minerva – the goddess which this temple is dedicated to – could punish someone. At the end of this talk we
were allowed to handle some of the ancient items like a strigil (used to scrape any dirt off one’s skin).
Finally, after some lunch, it was time to head back. It had been a fascinating day and a truly magnificent experience.
