Organization of Life Layered Curriculum Level 2 S7L2. Students will describe the structure and function of cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems. c. Explain that cells are organized into tissues, tissues into organs, organs into systems, and systems into organisms. d. Explain that tissues, organs, and organ systems serve the needs cells have for oxygen, food, and waste removal. e. Explain the purpose of the major organ systems in the human body (i.e., digestion, respiration, reproduction, circulation, excretion, movement, control, and coordination, and for protection from disease). Complete one task. Due March 8th, 2016. 1. Cells Need What? Create a product that explains how the circulatory, respiratory, digestive, and excretory systems serve the needs of individual cells. How are the other five systems assisting with the needs of the cells? 2. Organs, Organs, Everywhere Cut out the paper dolls, stack them together, and staple them at the feet. Use one paper doll per organ system. Illustrate and label the organs for each system. Reminder: One system per doll. On a separate sheet of lined notebook paper, explain how all of the organs in the entire body work together. Identify any organs that you believe work alone and explain why. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxA2MuXalDbxeEI5OGJQNjBpcDg/view?usp=sharing 3. Organ System Chain Using origami, fold and cut out a paper doll chain. You will need a total of 9 dolls in the chain. Directions: 1. Tape 2 pieces of computer paper (or 1 poster paper) and fan fold 8x for 9 total flaps 2. Fan fold and outline the shape of a person’s body and make sure hands and feet go all the way to the edge of fan folds 3. Cut outline (except for where hands and feet connect at edges) 4. On one side write the name of the organ system and write the general functions of the system 5. On the other side, explain how each system works with the other systems of the human body. 6. Color 4. Read to Me Write and illustrate a children’s book that explains how each of the organ systems work together as one unit. Your book must include all 9 organ systems, system functions, and system organs. Don’t forget COLOR! 5. Who wants to play? Design a game that will follow a nutrient molecule, oxygen molecule, and waste molecule to and from a cell around the human body. Explain how the molecules are moving around the body by explaining the body systems as they travel through. Level 2 should include: ★ All nine organ systems circulatory, digestive, respiratory, excretory, nervous, immune, skeletal, muscular, and endocrine. *10 pts* ★ Functions and structure for each of the organ systems. *45pts* ★ Explanation of how all the systems work together. Specific examples must be provided. *45 pts*
