OUR HISTORY MATTERS Vintage Base Ball by Hugh Belgard Thursday, May 28, 6 p.m. at the History Center Hugh Belgard of the Mankato Baltics, BECHS' vintage 1860s base ball (yes, two words) team, will present on being a player and umpire for vintage base ball games. Belgard will share the rules and terminology used for the "matches," aka games. The Baltics open their season on May 16 in Columbia Heights. In Minnesota Homefront, World War II, visitors discover what it was like to “make do” with rationing, farm during a severe labor shortage, work on the Iron Range, develop inventions for the War, and be trained as a translator at Fort Snelling. This, however, is not the end of the expansion work that needs to be done at the History Center. We still need to paint the halls in the upper level as well as move parts of collections storage, just to name a few. Please contact Danelle to volunteer or for more information about the projects. Here are a few specific improvement projects that we are currently seeking financial support for: $2,000 to purchase new microfilm printers in the Research Center (balance remaining after a grant) $3,000 to purchase two compact shelving units for collections storage $4,000 covers one of seven quarterly building acquisition payments $5,000 to upgrade our security and fire safety system. $10,500 for Facility Conditions Assessment, Feasibility Study and Schematic Drawings – to help us prioritize and evaluate necessary repairs. $15,000 for renovations to the new Research Center and Volunteer Workroom including: new hallway entrance, carpet, wiring and paint.
