There has been a good turnout for both tournaments this year and team play actually has alternates playing. There have been new faces and old standbys winning the tournaments this year. Team play controls their own destiny with Burbank on Saturday the ninth of February. If they win big they will go to the playoffs. Our February meeting will be at the second tournament of the month. The meeting format has changed a little bit this year. As I mentioned at the first meeting this year, we will no longer be subsidizing lunches. That was used to bring non playing members to the meeting. The board felt it did not meet expectations so we will use that money to bolster the tournament prize fund and raffle prizes. The board would like to thank the management and staff at Royal Vista for their continuing support of our men‛s club. The best way we can show our appreciation is by coming out and playing the course. Get involved in the tournaments and experience a golf course that‛s getting better every day. 20055 E. Colima Road Walnut, CA Clubhouse 909-595-7441 Web Site - www.larvga.com 2 Joke of the Day! Tim decided to tie the knot with his long time girlfriend. One evening, after the honeymoon, he was cleaning his golf shoes. His wife was standing there watching him. After along period of silence she finally speaks. “Honey, I‛ve been thinking, now that we are married I think it‛s time you quit golfing. Maybe you should sell your golf clubs.” Tim gets this horrified look on his face. She says, “Darling, what‛s wrong?” “There for a minute you were sounding like my ex-wife.” “Ex wife!” she screams, “I didn‛t know you were married before!” “I wasn‛t!” A Flight 2 Man Scramble - 1-19-13 Player A Player B Johnson, Michael Mora, Robert Emry Frost Walker, Dennis Gaither, Jim Gallant, Mark Ozols, Craig Lira, Alex Jackson, Randy Vuckovich, Steve Aleemuddin, Azam Devaney, Tim bud Lindsey Mitchell, Vincent Zantos, Phil Citizen, Tim Bowers, Kevin Doglas, Trevor Ozols, Kriss Kikuda, Grant Team HC Gross Net 15.95 9.10 16.86 11.15 14.72 9.17 10.37 8.30 6.96 17.39 72 67 75 70 74 69 71 69 68 80 56.05 57.90 58.14 58.85 59.28 59.83 60.63 60.70 61.04 62.61 Team HC Gross Net 20.18 23.93 20.03 20.49 20.00 19.60 17.64 18.60 20.74 22.48 72 76 74 76 78 78 77 79 82 84 51.82 52.07 53.97 55.51 58.00 58.40 59.36 60.40 61.26 61.52 $60 Per Person + T of C $30 per person B Flight Player A Player B Cornejo, Ventura Branchick, James Vasquez, James Giles, Tony Pascoe, Jerry Salamon, Carl Miles, Thomas White, Steve Merrill, Scott Crose, Virgil Thomas, Johnny Brown, Isaac Heffington, Ronda Williams, Gregory Harrison, Hanley Hall, Robert Smith, Richard Gross, Ron Wheeler, Ken Flemins, Hal 3 $60 Per Person + T of C $30 per person Vince Mitchell - Vice President Team Play; I want to thank Tim and the Team for their support while I was visiting my dad. We seem to be headed in the right direction and are in full control as we head into our last match. Our record stands at 1-2; but we have again beaten Mountain Meadows by point differential. This match is very important against Burbank as they are in contol by beating us by 6 points. There are challenges in front of us; and weather maybe one of those challenges. I look forward to kicking these guys asses on Saturday. Spring Fling is starting to take shape. I looked this year at a few more courses; and cost was one of the killers; plus we could not bring our own food and drink to the Thursday night Fling. With that said, yes we are back at the Fairfield Inn; and our golf will be at Taquitz. I am working on finishing the cost; and signing contracts this weekend. I will have a flyer our this month for everyone to sign up. More to follow in the next few weeks. The dates for the Fling are April 25th and 26th. I am really looking for a large crowd of players; should be fun. Team Play Schedule/Results January 12 - Royal Vista 21 at Burbank 27 January 19 - Bye Week January 26 - Mt Meadows 21 at Royal Vista 27 February 2 - Royal Vista 22 at Mt Meadows 26 February 9 - Burbank at Royal Vista 4 Kriss Ozols - Tournament Chairman So it has been a month in to my first year of being tournament chairman and so far we have not had too many complaints, I will take this as a sign that everyone is happy with my work so far. We have had good turnouts for the first 2 tournaments with 42 people in the 2 Man Scramble and 38 people in the Match vs. Par. I would like to congratulate Alex Lira and Isaac Brown for winning their flights and getting into the TOC for the Match vs. Par, well done! As well a congratulations to the winners of the 2 man scramble in their flights, Mike Johnson and Azam Aleemuddin for shooting a net 56.05 in A flight and Ventura Cornejo and Johnny Thomas for carding a blistering 51.82 in the B flight. As you may have noticed during the scramble we played from the white tees, this is a trend that will be followed for team events, for individual events the tees will be mixed up throughout the year we might not always tee off from the Blue or White monuments. We will play it forward to allow everyone a comfortable distance that they are accustom to playing from, but with that being said there might be one or two holes that might even the playing field a little. For Majors we will be playing all rounds from the blue monuments. If there are any questions or comments on upcoming tournaments please feel free to contact me directly at [email protected]. 5 Doug Peterson - Treasurer From the Treasurer--Since you didn‛t get a “rhyme” last month, hopefully you did find the “rhythm” of your golf swing for the new year…my apologies but spell check involves another layer of techiness on my part that hasn‛t evolved yet. What is evolving is our plans for Palm Springs and Laughlin and their costs, along with the costs of Team Play and SCGA fees. Each will bring a contribution from our treasury, some a bit more that others. We will be “solvent” as the year progresses nontheless. Should we need a dime or two, maybe we can ask one of our Super Bowl pool winners to donate to the cause…you know who you are…!!! It‛s amazing how 5 seconds at the end of a 60 minute game, can change the size of your wallet so quickly. Or how a perfect putt from 20 feet can be in the heart of the cup 6 inches away, do a 180 around the lip and turn a “legendary” 59 into just an “awesome” 60...so be the fates of golf and Phil Mickelson at the Phoenix Open. His winners share at $1.1M is not a bad consolation prize though. And is it just me or am I hearing familiar names of old among the leader boards again…??? Snedeker, Stricker, Harrington, Woods and Mickelson. Okay, there is a Russell Henly in there too, but the “young guns”, maybe they better not discount the older set just yet. Not that the “young guns” aren‛t entertaining. Their numbers in Hawaii were quite impressive and they hit it, find it, and hit it again with such ease. Dustin Johnson, among others, hit many 350 plus drives, with a few at 400. Keegan Bradley, despite his fidgety set up routine, hitting a 273 yard five iron to the green at 18 or Bubby Watson hitting the same green from 260 yards with a 6 iron…just numbers we at LARV can only dream about until we get the new technology that‛s out, maybe for Valentines Day? Oops, you can‛t buy it for yourself on this occasion so be nice to someone else and maybe they will get it for you. Yeah, right! Speaking of sweets, Girl Scout Cookies are now out and its almost un American not to buy any. Try the “Thin Mints” with a nice glass of Pinot Noir for dessert. They go well together and since its “thin” food, there aren‛t many calories in it. Ha! 6
