States six times in cross country, track and field, and on the roads. He competed in the 2008 and 2012
U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials and earned seven NCAA DII All-American honors and three NCAA
Division II national titles at Chico State. His major career wins include the 2016 Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona Half
Marathon, the 2010 Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Half Marathon, and the 2008 USATF Club Cross Country

Championships. In national championship events, he finished second place at the 2010 U.S. Outdoor
Track and Field Championships in the 3000-meter steeplechase, second place in the U.S. Indoor Track

Defending champion Sam Chelanga followed up his impressive victory at the 2015 USATF 10 Mile
Championships with a second national title on the roads at the 2015 USATF 12K Championships. He
recently finished third at the 2016 USATF 5K Championships and second the 2016 USATF 20K
Championships, and in 2015 he finished fourth at the USATF 5K Championships and second at the USATF
20K Championships. He became an American citizen in August of 2015, making him eligible to compete
in the 2016 U.S. Olympic Marathon Team Trials. Earlier this year he won the Cherry Blossom 10 Mile,
finished third at the NYC Half, and competed in the 2016 U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials. While at
Liberty University, he won four NCAA Di Championships titles and set the NCAA record at 10,000 meters.
