th Dear Families of the Kestrels, Friday 19 June 2015 This week in Literacy, it has all been about alliteration, which is: “the same letter at the beginning such as car clap” (Sam M). We learnt an alliteration song and wrote it independently. We also took part in activities such as: “poems and alliteration sound swap” (Tom), “games on the computer – reading alliteration sentences and matching” (Amelie). In Maths, we have been continuing our learning about estimating, and this week we have been weighing. We know how to weigh items successfully by: “you get a weighing scale and you put some sand in and then get some teddies and blocks and see if it measures the same” (Joe). We loved using our mud kitchen to make mud pies! We used things like “sand and water” (Noah), and “grass and leaves” (Samuel T). In PE with Coach Bill, we practised what we had to do for Sports Day. Thanks to all our family and friends who came to see us race! We enjoyed “doing the monkey race” (Harry) and “when my Mum was racing!” (Orion). In Music with Mr Wynne, “we played instruments and practising the notes to the music” (Heidi). In Science, we have been learning about air resistance and have been throwing parachutes around in the garden. We then performed a fair test, which means: “that everyone has the same amount of things and you change one thing at a time” (Hannah). We found out that: “by using some more string and a peg made our parachute fly higher” (Sammy). In Art, we are learning about Andy Goldsworthy, “he uses stuff from outside” (Alex). He is an “environmental artist” (Hannah). “We made sculptures using anything that was around us outside” (Noah) Year 1’s have new spellings, we will be learning different ways to spell the /oe/ sound next week. Our spelling test is every Friday. For our TABLETASTIC test, we will be tested on our 12 times tables next week – loads of us got GOLD for our 11s this week so KEEP ON GOING! Reception children will be practising their handwriting in their booklet. Please only go up to letter /s/ this week as we will be looking at these letters in class and continuing practising! Please ensure we are not joining our letters yet as we need to make sure we are forming our letters correctly before joining when we get to Year 1! As a class, we have agreed that we will not be bringing in toys or footballs anymore as they distract us from our learning. We have a Kestrel Class ball – named Blop! It is bright green! We agreed that if Miss White finds toys she will “take them away, put them in her cupboard, and give them back to us at the end of the day” (Louise) The best thing about this week has been: “playing at the finger gym table”(Valentina), “reading Up you go Kipper!” (Arthur), and “playing football with Samuel” (Jamie). Love from, The Kestrels
