End of Term Letter- Central North
Dear Parents
As we approach the end of yet another term, I would like to take the opportunity to thank you all
for your help, support and interest this term. It’s been a phenomenal term here at the White
Lodge, Central North! We have enjoyed exploring the many wonderful units of enquiry this term,
learning through exploration and play. Also, discovering and meeting new friends and teachers.
It is a moment of satisfaction when we look back on our milestones and achievements. This is a
tribute to the learning opportunities, enriching experiences and meaningful journey the children
have embarked on. The smiles on the children’s faces are a testament to all the combined efforts
we have put in to make this a memorable term.

In the 10 weeks that have past, it has been exciting for all of us as we explored different units of
enquiry and had enough opportunities to celebrate the fun and learning.
Looking back at our journey…
The term began with the unit ‘inventors and Inventions’. The children learnt, how these
inventions have evolved through the years and also how they have assisted us in many ways.
Our playgroup and Pre Nursery children focused on the theme of ‘Transportation’. They learnt
about different types of transportation such as trains, the ship and the hot air balloon. The
Nursery class explored the unit on Invention of Toys with activities to involve traditional games
to focus on Frisbee, Building Blocks, Clay modelling and playing with different types of balls by
rolling, throwing, squishing and just having a “ball of a time”!
Following that, we had our ‘Science Week’ celebration. The children
took this opportunity to dress up as scientists, ready to conduct the
various experiments set up in our “pretend” laboratories. The school
was converted into a mini science lab to facilitate observation and
analysis. The children explored astronomy, biology, physics and
chemistry set ups in a child friendly way.
2
‘Friendship Day’, was a very colourful celebration. Our children enjoyed a
celebration about having friends and learnt how lonely one can get with no friends.
The key themes were on how to be a good friend” or “What do good friends do”
or “Why do we need friends” to organize a “It Starts with ME….” campaign.
One People, One Nation, One Singapore. As the nation which stands united as one, here at
White Lodge, we celebrated the occasion with much sense of
patriotism. 2016 marks the ‘51st birthday of Singapore’. Everyone
learned more about the cultural diversity and how Singapore
embraces diversity. We explored more about
the National Monuments and food. The Elephant Herd and the Monkey
Troop learned more about Singapore’s National Symbols such as the
orchid, the Merlion and the Singapore’s flag. The Lion Pride made
delicious food items made in Singapore homes such as Nasi Lemak, Fried
Bee Hoon, Chappati and Bread and Butter Pudding. These experiences have been sure to be
enriching for the children.

After that, as always, we were pleased to note how much the children have grown in terms of
confidence and deliverance. This was delivered during the ‘Class
Presentations’. These presentations are means for us to share and
celebrate the wonderful things the children have learnt in school. Your
participation in these events is greatly appreciated. This has been a
learning journey for all of us.
Finally, we had our long awaited ‘Book Week’ celebration. The school was filled with characters
from various story books.
