Teatime at Boycott Farm
Thank you to everyone who
came to visit on Monday 24th
August. The weather was nice
and sunny - just right for a tractor ride! Club members also
met the cute piglets and their
mum. They were only 2 weeks
old.
a lovely tea of Boycott Sausages, beans and mash
cooked by Rosemary in the
kitchen. Everyone also had
good fun doing puzzles and
colouring. We also had a colouring competition. The 2
winners’ pictures are shown
Mia was kind enough to chat
about her Alpacas and we were
able to feed them. She then
showed us how she spins their
beautiful soft fur into wool
which she uses in her shop to
knit into jumpers and other
clothing.
Back at the farm everyone had
Zaria Age 5
here. Congratulations to them
both. They each won a lovely
book.
We all had a great day and look
forward to doing it again. Details of our next visit are on the
back page.
See you again soon.

Message from Richard the Farmer
Thank you to everyone who came
to our Kidz Club tea. It was great
fun taking you out on my tractor.
I hope you enjoyed it.
Boycott Farm has been in my family for 89 years. I grew up farming
and never wanted to do anything
else.
Life here is always busy and we
have just finished harvesting our
wheat. We use a huge combined
harvester from a neighbouring
farm. The wheat has now left Boycott and will eventually be used to
make biscuits!
We have had 3 new calves born in
the last couple of weeks. One boy
and two girls. They spend all their
time out in the field with their
Mum and still drink her milk. We
won’t have anymore calves now until Christmas time.
The piglets you all met at the Kidz
Club tea are now 9 weeks old. They
no longer drink milk from their
mum. Now they eat pig pellets and
lots of them!
This week 2 more sows have farrowed (given birth) to piglets. One
had 6 piglets and the other had 11,
all covered in spots!

Boycott Farm Tales by Helen
Harriet Hen in the Secret Garden
It was a lovely sunny morning on Boycott Farm and although it was early, everyone was already awake. In Cluckingham Palace the hens were busy laying their eggs, clucking noisily
to each other. They loved to chat when they woke up and the noise made them feel happy and safe.
Everyone, that is, except Harriet Hen. She was a fussy little hen and sometimes found it difficult to
concentrate on laying her egg.. As it was a nice day she decided to go and find somewhere a little
quieter and went outside into the big field next to Cluckingham Palace.
Whilst Harriet settled down in the long, green grass she was spotted by Rufus, the ginger-haired alpaca. Rufus was a friendly chap and always liked to greet the hens when they came out into the field.
“Harriet, Harriet. Hello!” he shouted as he ran towards her. Sadly, Rufus hadn’t seen the fresh, brown
egg Harriet had just laid, “Stop!” she clucked but it was too late and with a crack and a squelch the
egg was broken. Rufus was very sorry but Harriet said it was okay and she would find somewhere
else tomorrow.
The next morning Harriet got up bright and early and left the noise of Cluckingham Palace. She
walked around the farmhouse to the front of the shop and settled down in the warm morning sun.
This time she was spotted by Dasher the dog. Dasher was very excitable, and loved to play. She
bounded over to Harriet, “Harriet, Harriet! Let’s play catch.” And with that she picked up the fresh
brown egg Harriet had just laid, thinking it was a ball, “Stop!” she clucked, but it was too late and
with a crack and a squelch the egg was broken. Dasher was very sorry but Harriet said it was okay
and she would go somewhere else tomorrow.
The next morning Harriet decided to try one more time, so she left the noise of Cluckingham Palace
and went out into the sunshine. She walked around the farmhouse again but was stopped by a lovely
smell. It was coming from Rosemary and Richard’s garden. She walked over and in the corner by the
back door she saw some beautiful plants. It was Rosemary’s herb garden. Harriet smiled to herself as
she settled down amongst the delicious smelling plants. This was the perfect place to lay her egg.
Rosemary had been watching and came out of the kitchen.”Good morning Harriet. What a lovely
egg. That would be perfect for my breakfast. Do you mind if I take it?” Harriet fluffed up her feathers and clucked proudly as Rosemary carefully took the egg inside.
Now, every morning Harriet goes to the peace and quiet of her secret garden
and lays a special fresh brown egg just for Rosemary.
She feels like the most important hen in Cluckingham Palace!
Rosemary’s Recipes
I Love cooking, especially with food which we produce on the
farm. Fresh food is healthy and gives you lots of energy to
play with your friends. I am especially fond of the chickens
at Boycott so I thought my first recipe should be simple
scrambled eggs.
Ingredients:
3 Eggs
Knob of butter
Method:
Beat the eggs with a fork and
season with salt and pepper.
Melt the butter in a saucepan over a medium heat.
Add the beaten eggs and
heat, stirring continuously
until the eggs are firm.
Serve with fresh toast, chipolatas, sausages, bacon or
grilled tomatoes.

Animal noughts and crosses
Cut out the squares with the animal pictures and stick them to a piece of card. One person has the chicken
cards and the other has the pig cards. Take it in turns to put the cards on the squares. The winner is the first
person to get a row of their cards horizontally, vertically or diagonally.
