Eleanor Burns Teresa Varnes Tiny Hearts Wallhanging 10" x 12½" Background (1) Fat Quarter (20) 3” squares Scraps (20) multiple fabrics at least 2¼” square (cut to size later) Backing Fat Quarter Binding ¼ yd (2) 2½” strips Light Paper Backed Fusible Web ¼ yd (20) 2” squares Batting 12" x 14" Dies GO! Square 3” (2 ½” Finished) #55256 or rotary cut 3” squares Working with Paper Backed Fusible Web 1.Assembly-line cut (20) 2” paper backed squares. 2.Place multiple scrap fabrics wrong side up on pressing mat. 3.Place rough side of fusible web against wrong side of fabric. Press for 5-8 seconds with hot, dry iron. Let cool. When using the AccuQuilt, fabric layered with interfacing is considered two layers. 4.Cut fabric same size as fusible. 5.Cover Heart shape on die #55744 with fused fabric. Layer cut up to six layers. Cut fabric same size as fusible. 6.Peel off paper backing. 7.Position fusible Heart on 3” Background square, right side up. 8.Set iron on wool setting. Press firmly for 10 – 15 seconds. Check. If Heart doesn’t fuse in place, cover with damp press cloth and try again. 3 Blanket Stitch This stitch will hold raw edges in tact. It first takes a straight stitch on Background fabric and then takes a bite to the left over the raw edge. P lace open toe foot on machine and wide hole throat plate. Select blanket stitch on machine, slow speed, and needle down. My favorite stitch on my Babylock Auria is #14 at 2 stitch width and 2 stitch length. This is a tiny stitch relevant to size of heart. 4. S titch very slowly on 5 .A t V, stop with needle down 6 . Continue around curve curve, turning slightly after straight stitch, pivot, take and join up with beginning with each stitch. bite, and pivot again into stitches. Lock stitches, and curve. cut threads Start 3. C ontinue blanket stitch up side. 1.Begin stitching on right side of heart. Place needle in Background fabric, take straight stitch, and then bite into Heart. 2. S lowly take bite past point and stop on Background with straight stitch and needle down. Pivot with needle in Background on outside edge. 4 Sewing Wallhanging Together 1. Lay out Heart blocks in rows four across and five down. 2. Flip and assembly-line sew vertical rows together. 3.From wrong side, press horizontal rows in alternating directions for locking seams. 4. Sew remaining rows, locking seams. 5. Press seams toward bottom. 6. Layer, quilt, and bind. Heart Banner 1. Cut hearts and fuse to 3” squares. 2. Finish raw edges of Hearts. 3. Chain stitch top of Hearts together. 4. Flower Shapes by Edyta Sitar Heart Die #55029 2”, 3”, 4” sizes 6 Cutting Background 1.Fold 12½” x 21” fabric in fourths. 2.Draw oval on end with 13” dinner plate. Cut on line. Cutting Shapes 1. Hearts: Fuse paper backed fusible to wrong side of heart fabric. 2.Cut 3” Hearts. Peel paper away. 3. Tear Drops: Fuse paper backed fusible to wrong side of Tear Drop fabric. 4.Cut (20) Tear Drops. Peel paper away. Finishing Dresser Scarf 1.Lay out Hearts and Tear Drops following photo. 2.Fuse in place 3.Finish raw edges with blanket stitch, straight stitch, or satin stitch. Sewing Bias 1. Piece two strips together. Do not fold. 2.Line up raw edge of bias binding right sides together with Background. Sew with ¼” seam. 3.Open bias and press flat toward edge. Topstitch along top edge of binding. 4.Turn to back side. Turn raw edge under ¼”, and hand stitch. 7 Tiny Hearts Wallhanging Love is one of the most powerful of emotions.
