PERFECT 10
The ideal friend can be modelled by facilitating group or 1-1 activity using perfect 10 (attached),
this can be used by pupils from upper stage primary school to early secondary level.
To initiate the activity prepare the 3 colours of statements, keeping them in separate envelopes
Red – physical attributes Green – personality traits and Pink – Social attributes. If you want to
add /develop more examples of the Red, Green and pink cards the sky is you limit, you could even
add some blank cards for the young people you are working with to add (just make sure they fit
the right characteristic to the right colour card) It is also helpful to print out the Grid which ensures
you have no more than 10 chosen cards to hand.
First step is to ask your group or individual to select 10 red qualities (physical attributes),
remember not to have more than 10 red cards placed on your grid.
Next you introduce green qualities (personality traits) – To choose the green cards, red cards must
be substituted and therefore removed to make room for the green cards that have been chosen.
There can only be 10 qualities on the grid at a time. You should now have a mix of green and red
cards that have taken priority.
Finally introduce the pink cards (social things like family, job, holidays, clubbing) - to add any of
these cards, red and green card choices must be substituted to in place of pink cards.
When you have gone through all of the pink options, you will find you have a mix of all 3 colours
on the grid, you should never have more than 10 cards in total.
The aim of the discussion is to discuss what is important in a friendship or a partner. There is a
balance of different qualities required when developing a relationship with someone, it is always
good for us to recognise the importance of personality traits in a relationship to ensure you have
supportive networks of people around you and good friends you can rely on as well as have fun
with.
