Saving an unfinished iMovie project for completion later

YoumayhavenoticedthatthereisnosaveoptioninthemenusforiMovie.Thatisbecauseyourprojectisautomatically
savedtothecomputerharddriveasyouwork.WhenyouarefinishedworkingonyouriMovieprojectyoucanshareit
toanumberofplaces,includingyouremail,iTunes,andyourexternaldevice.Fordirectionsonhowtoexportyour
project,seetheLibrary’siMovieQuickStartGuide.
*Notethatyouwillnotbeabletomakeanychangestoyourprojectafteryouexportit.
Ifyouarenotfinishedwithyourproject,followthesubsequentstepstosaveitsoyouwillbeabletocontinue
workingatalaterpoint:
ThebestwaytoeditaniMovieprojectinthemedialab(orondifferentcomputers)istosaveyourprojectintoan
iMovieLibraryonaremovabledrive(suchasaflashdrive).Thefirstpartofthisguideshowsyouhowtocreatean
iMovielibraryonaflashdrive,andthenhowtomoveyourprojectintothenewlibrary.Thesecondpartshowsyouhow
toaccessthatlibrarywhenyoureturntothemedialab(orifyouneedtoresumeyourprojectonothercomputers).
1)MovinganiMovieProjecttoyourremovabledrive
1.Pluginyourremovabledrive(usuallyaflashdrive)andopeniMovieifnotalreadyopen.
2.FromthemenuatthetopofthescreenselectFile>OpenLibrary>New
3.UnderSaveAs:giveyourlibraryaname.Thenclickonthedropdownbuttonsoyoucanlocateyour
removabledrive.
4.Selectyourremovabledrive,thenpress“Save”.You’llnowhaveasecondLibraryinyourleftnavigationbar.
5.ThenclicktheProjectsbuttonintheupperrightofiMovie.
6.FromtheProjectswindowofiMovie,moveyourcursoron
topthe
projectyouwishtosave.Asmalliconwillappear:itlookslikeanellipseinsideacircle.
Clickthisicontobringupthemenu.ClickMovetoLibraryandthenselectthelibrarythatyoujustcreatedinthe
flashdrive.Thensave.
Savingaprojectcantakeseveralminutes.Youcantrackyoursavingprogressbywatchingthetimerintheupper
rightcorner:
7.Yourprojectisnowstoredonyourremovabledrive.Whenyouexpandthenewlibrary,theprojectwill
appear.FollowtheinstructionsbelowwhenyouneedtoopenitonanothercomputeriniMovie.
2)AccessinganiMovieProjectonyourremovabledrive
1.Plugyourremovabledrive(orflashdrive)intotheMacandthenopeniMovie.
2.SelectFile->OpenLibrary->Other
3. Click on the “Locate…” button on the lower
right so that you can find your iMovie library on your removable drive or USB drive.
4. Select your removable drive on the left, then highlight your iMovie library and click “Open” in the lower right.
5. You can now resume editing your iMovie project directly on your removable drive. Double-click your
project to open and edit it. The changes you make will be saved automatically.
