Colgate Cartons 2013
Get collecting! We have until the 17th June
to collect 1,100 Colgate cartons to get a
fantastic Physical Education prize pack!
Here are some useful points about the
Colgate race!
Please be aware of what Colgate cartons
count towards the Colgate race!
Each
Colgate brand toothpaste carton
counts as one carton.
Sample size Colgate toothpaste cartons,
cartons not purchased within New
Zealand, cartons used for the 2010, 2011
or 2012 competitions and other types of
cartons or brands are not eligible and
should not be included.
The Colgate Carton Race collection closes
on the 11:59:59pm 17 June 2013.
New World Bonus
Bonus Cards will be given out at checkout/
customer service desks in New World
stores throughout April to shoppers who
purchase Colgate toothpaste
Each Bonus Card = 1 Colgate Carton Race
point.
This gives shoppers who purchase Colgate
toothpaste in NW stores double points for
April as their toothpaste carton counts as 1
point, as does the bonus card.
Bonus cards and Colgate toothpaste
cartons contribute towards the total
schools carton count for claiming prizes.

we have changed the date for the class
photographs to Wednesday 10th April.
Riding to school.
It is great to see the fifty or so bikes and
scooters coming to school each day. It
means we have children getting exercise,
being independent and it eases the
congestion in the car park with fewer
cars. If you would like a high visibility
vest for your child who is riding to school
please get them to ask me for one I do
have a few available in various sizes.

Gardening Request
If you have any clean, small pots suitable
for transplanting seedlings, the
Gardening Group would really appreciate
them.
Help your child make
connections to literature
To help your child get the most out of
books, focus on problem-solving, social
skills and life experience.
For instance, take your children to the
zoo (life experience).
Teach them to ask an adult for help
(problem-solving) or to hold the door for
others (social skills).
With an arsenal of these skills in place,
they will be able to relate their own life
experiences to those of book characters,
improving their comprehension.
If they don’t have these life experiences,
and we ask them to make deeper
connections to literature, it can be hard
for them.
13/14 April
Use e-mail to keep in touch.
E-mail is a great way to reach your
child’s teacher without having to play
phone tag.
E-mail is great for teachers because they
can have a record of a conversation or
print things out to put in a student’s file
as a reminder.
Teachers want to know when students
need more help.
It’s important that there’s a lot of
positive communication going back and
forth - from “your child did a great job
today” to hear that students are talking
at home about what they’ve learned in
school.
Our teacher’s emails are the teachers

Shed needed
We are looking for a shed to house the
Sandspit School christmas float trailer.
The trailer is approximately 2.5 metres
long and in need of repair.
The owner of the shed where it is
currently stored now needs his shed for
another purpose and we need to find
new accommodation for it.
Please contact the office if you are able
to help.

the school car park when picking up and
dropping off your children.
Car park (cont)…
Horse Riding
The drop off zone needs to be kept clear
so parents can pull in a drop off and pick
up quickly. We have number of parents
who are parking and leaving their cars in
this zone and it is causing traffic
blockage as is double parking.
Horse Riding Lessons for all levels of
riders. Ponies supplied .
If you need to get out of your car please
park in one of the parking bays closer to
the road or in Riverside Drive where
there is space.
After school sessions, 2.5 hours duration.
School Holiday full day programmes.

Please be part of the parking solution not
part of the problem.
School Uniform Hats
We are looking at the option of phasing
out the school cap option as part of the
school uniform. While the caps offer
some protection to the eyes and head
they offer no protection to the ears or
back of the head. Option available to us
include the continuation of the Bucket
hat and the introduction of a full
brimmed hat that would offer wider sun
protection.
I would be interested to hear from
parents about your thoughts on the hat
option. If we did take the cap option
away it would be over a period of time so
as not to cause a problem for families.
Please email me with your thoughts on
what option you would prefer to
