On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to
1. Recognise and translate communication ‘cues’ from others, particularly in the workplace.
2. Consciously use positive non-verbal communication in the workplace.
3. Deliberately encode effective messages, taking into account cultural considerations and receiver sensitivities within the
finance sector.
4. Develop and deliver effective presentations.
5. Conduct and participate in business meetings in a professional manner.
6. Make effective use of workplace communication skills in a variety of contexts as part of a finance team.
7. Practise appropriately assertiveness in the workplace.

Indicative Content
Introduction to Communication
Key elements of the communication process (sender, receiver, etc), academic models of the communication process, managing your
messages, interpersonal communication barriers (barriers to communication).
Non-Verbal Communication
Importance of non-verbal communication with particular reference to the finance sector, body language, posture, gestures, etc, proxemics,
kinesics, semiotics.
Presentation Skills
Purpose/objectives, audience analysis, timing/location/context,content/structure, visual aids, delivery (vocal, non-verbal) Q&A, audience
interaction, developing an individual speaking style, individual and group presentations.
Meetings
Roles – chairperson, participant, secretary, planning and preparation, documents – agenda, minutes, etc, conducting the meeting,
participating effectively in the meeting.
Workplace Skills
Time management, listening Skills, interpersonal skills, assertiveness, working effectively in a group.
