Physical activity, intensity and sport
4
At the Olympic and Paralympic Games, there are a total of 46 sports.
They all require different amounts of physical effort. Make a note
below of an Olympic and Paralympic event which is low, moderate and
high intensity. Research which British Olympians and Paralympians will
be participating in this event during London 2012.
There are lots of ways to be active without playing sport, can you
name three examples which are low, moderate and high intensity?
Low
Moderate
High
a.Low intensity sport (little physical effort needed, for example shooting).

Physical activity
Choose a week and record the amount of moderate and high intensity
physical activity you do. Remember to include your P.E. lessons and
any activities you do in the evenings or weekends. It doesn’t have to
be structured classes – going to the park for a run around, cycling and
brisk walking also count. Encourage your family to take part and
record what they have done.

To keep your body healthy, you should try to do at least 60 minutes of
moderate physical activity each day. Some find this easier than others
– we’re all different!
Looking at your physical activity diary, on how many days do you achieve
this? (circle one option)
