Reading
This week we discussed making predictions,
sequencing events, and analyzing characters in
the story. We discussed the short vowel /o/.
Our comprehension skills for the week were
asking and answering questions as one reads
and recalling details in stories.
-- Please study during the week for the test
on Friday.

English
This week we continued to discuss what makes
a good sentence (capital at the beginning, end
mark, good spacing, and it makes sense).
Math
This week we began our unit on Subtraction.
Midterms
Midterms will be sent home Tuesday. I will
staple them to agendas. Please sign and return
the bottom portion of the report. Please
remember this is where your child is as of
now. They have plenty of time for their grades
to go up or go down. The beginning of the year
focused more on review. Thank you for all you
do at home with your child!

–-We will practice the words at school, but
students may need to practice at home. They
will read the words to me on Friday for a
reading grade.

Notes/Money
If you send your child to school with money,
please put the money in a bag and write a note
saying what the money is for. This helps us
understand what to do with the money.
NWEA Testing
This is a new test our school will use for all
students in K-6. It will help us monitor growth
in students and will tell us the exact skills
each student should work on. I will administer
the reading portion of our classroom's NWEA
test on Friday, September, 16th in the
morning. Please make sure students have had
plenty of rest the night before and had a good
breakfast. We will begin at 8:30 on Friday
morning. The Math part will be administered
to our class in the afternoon on Thursday,
September 22nd.
Have a wonderful weekend!

next week‘s reading focus and ideas to do
at home.
Dear Families,
Next week in reading our class will be focusing on the different ways we can move our bodies, such as running, kicking, waving,
and hopping.
Here are some activities that you can do with your child to help reinforce the skills we’ll be practicing.
Word Workout

Words to Know/High Frequency Words: When studying these words, help your child use the words to tell a story
about ways they can move. Have your child show and tell the meaning of the words, and then write a sentence using
each word.

Spelling/Phonics: beginning consonant blends Help your child identify the two beginning sounds that blend together in
each spelling word. This week’s phonic sounds are beginning r- and s-blends, as in the words stop, grin, and drip. Help
your child think of other words that begin with the same sounds.
Comprehension: key details
As your child reads stories, help your child by asking questions about the story’s sentences as well as the pictures in the story.
Details in stories come from both the text and the illustrations.

PE
Tuesday is our PE day. Students will be going outside. Please make sure your child wears tennis shoes and comfortable clothes
on Tuesdays. 
Bookmobile
Bookmobile comes to our school on Wednesdays. If your child forgets their Bookmobile book, they can wait until the following
week or you can return the books to the Westport or Greensburg Library.
Reading Wonders Usernames/Passwords
Your child’s username and password for the reading series is in the back of your child’s agenda on the page with the envelope.
Please do not remove it. They will use it to assess the site at school. If you would like, you may let your child use it at home to
work on the skills we are discussing each week. To assess from home go to the site below.
