HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!
The City of Chaska would like to wish all residents a happy Memorial Day
and remind you of several events taking place in celebration of the day.
The Chaska American Legion Post 57 is once again organizing activities on
Monday, May 27th. The Color Guard will be visiting area cemeteries to pay
honor to our fallen veterans, beginning with East Union Cemetery at 7:30
am, followed by the cemeteries at St. Nicholas in Carver, Mt. Hope in
Carver, Guardian Angels in Chaska, Chaska Moravian, and lastly, St. John’s
in Chaska at 9:30 am.
A parade will begin at the Carver Scott CoOp in Chaska at 10:00 am and
wind its way down Fourth Street to City Square Park.
Bill Geyer, a helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War in 1970 will be the
featured speaker from the Gazebo in the park.
Now is also the perfect time to help
out with the great work done by
the service organization called
Beyond the Yellow Ribbon, of
which the City of Chaska is a proud
member. Beyond the Yellow Ribbon is a comprehensive program that
creates awareness for the purpose of connecting servicemembers and their
families with community support, training, services, and resources. For
more information on how you can help, contact them at Email:
[email protected] or by phone: 952-856-0739
Finally, as a reminder, all Chaska City Offices, and the Carver County
Library at City Hall, will be closed in recognition of Memorial Day on
Monday. City offices will resume normal business hours at 7:30 am
Tuesday, May 28th. Have a great weekend!

The City of Chaska is governed by a five (5) member City Council consisting of a
Councilmember-at-Large (Mayor) and four (4) Councilmembers, one from each ward.
The Mayor is elected every two (2) years, and two of the four Councilmembers are
elected every two (2) years to four (4) year terms. Regular meetings of the City Council
are held at 7:00 pm on the first, third and, if there is a fifth, Monday of each month in
the Council Chambers of City Hall at One City Hall Plaza. If a regularly scheduled
meeting falls on a legal holiday, the meeting is normally held at the same hour on the
next Monday. Occasionally a Work Session will be held prior to a regular meeting to
discuss issues in depth. Councilmembers are paid a stipend of $6948 annually.
Chaska is a Statutory City and operates under the Council-Manager form of government.
The City Council is the governing body of the City and possesses various legislative
powers. They may exercise all the regulatory and corporate powers of a municipal
corporation provided under State law.
City Council members are not full-time officials and retain their positions in their chosen
professions or avocations. The Council appoints a City Administrator to be its chief
administrative officer, and invests in him/her the responsibility of managing the day-today affairs of the City. The Council-Manager form of government has attained
recognition as being the provider of the best full-time professional services in City
administration when combined with the finest talents the community has to offer in its
locally elected officials.
