2. RANKING
The ranking of the players is calculated from points gained in competitions and pick-up games.
For the time being only classic tournaments are taken into account for ranking purposes.
Leagues, single and double elimination require FIBA’s prior approval. Variations of this format
have to be approved by FIBA on a one-by-one basis.
The number of ranking points is comprised by the outcome of the games played the last full
12 months:
- the best 3 World Tour events and the best 6 FIBA-endorsed events (ex 3 best World
Tour) results played over the last year; the number of points earned at an event will depend
on the event level (see Appendices 1 & 2) and (i) final standings, (ii) wins & losses in the
pool or league games (iii) individual performance based on scored points (if full scouting);
however (1) only the latest played editions are taken into account for black & red events as well as
FIBA 3x3 Zone Champs U18, e.g. Prague Challenger 2012 overrides Prague Challenger 2011, and
(2) points pursuant yearly annual black & red events as well as FIBA 3x3 Zone Champs U18 are kept
until the new edition has been played albeit not longer than 15 months;
- The 200 best pick-up results over the last year with a limit of 10 results per day (pick-up
games are worth fewer points than FIBA-endorsed event games);
The ranking points will be updated Monday to Thursday, at 1200 hours UTC, except for a
New Years’ break between 24 December and 06 January (both inclusive) of the following year,
without prejudice of precedent, ranking will be calculated on 1 November irrespectively of date
of the week:
a. the results of the completed competitions that have been reported by said cut-off time;
b. the time stamp of an event is its finishing time, ergo for ranking purposes calculation that is
time used for all its games;
c. the results of the reported pick-up games for full days, whereas a day is considered to start
at 1200 hours UTC.
2.1 Event points
The number of ranking points awarded at an event’s category is related to its level. A
competition will follow the hierarchisation criteria of Appendix 1. Over time, existing
competitions’ category level can be adjusted based on the average ballerlevel of the 8 best
teams of the prior edition.
Ranking Compendium v. 2015_01

Individual ranking points are award to each player based on the event level-color and the
following formulas:
:
** The actual number of ranking points awarded for final standing and win & loss in pool phase
as well as the factor to be applied to the individual scoring for the various event levels is listed in
Appendix 2, though FIBA reserves the right to modify from time to time, as well as to apply
amendments retroactively. In order to collect the points derived from scoring performance all
games require full scouting.
The official and recommended FIBA 3x3 age categories are 30+, open, U18, U15 and U13
(although U12 do not collect ranking points).
Color level applicable to age for U-nn is individual driven, i.e. a U15 playing in U18 gets
points for U15 irrespectively of playing in a U18 category. This rule is not applied in black, red or
brown events. U15 cannot play in black-coded events.
Color level applicable to gender is individual driven, i.e. a female playing in men or mixed
gets female points. This rule is not applied in black, red or brown city-based events.
If a player participates at a tournament above its assigned level and loses all games, the
player receive no points, if it had the option of playing at a more appropriate level, e.g. 17
year old team playing in 18+ in spite of being able to play in a U18 category or a women team
playing in a men or open category in spite of being able to play in a women category.
With prejudice of previous, if a player participates in two categories, only the games of the
lower category are taken into account for ranking purposes, i.e. player gets zero points for
the upper category.
If a team is being eliminated from the competition and benefits from a repechage, it will get no
ranking points for those additional games, although these additional will be considered for
BallerLevel.

ranking points.

2.4 Classic tournament specific rules
A classic tournament’s minimum category or division size is composed by 4 teams; if the
number of teams is lower than 4 then the games will be treated as regular pick-up games for
ranking purposes. The ranking points collected will depend on the final standing and the 3 best
results of the pool phase.
If round-robin groups are of dissimilar size in a tournament level, the worst results in the larger
round robin are ignored to equalize the number of round-robins counted for all teams playing the
given level.
2.5 Leagues
The ranking points collected will depend on the final standing and the 20 best results of the
league season.
2.6 Single elimination specific rules
The minimum number of teams is 4. If the number of teams is lower than 4, then the games
will be treated as regular pick-up games for ranking purposes.
2.7 Pick-up games
The number of points awarded at a recorded pick-up games 30 for a win and 10 for a loss;
whereas only the best 200 results in the last 12 months are taken into account with a limit of 10
per day. At least one player in each team requires a confirmed account.
