Subtract Across Zeros
Example: What is 600 – 243?
Step-1
• Are there enough ones in 600 to subtract
3 ones? No (3 > 0).
• Since there are 0 tens, we can’t borrow from tens.
So, borrow 1 hundred and regroup as 10 tens.
• 6 hundreds 0 tens = 5 hundreds 10 tens.
Step-2
• Borrow 1 ten and regroup as 10 ones.
• 10 tens 0 ones = 9 tens 10 ones
Step-3
• Subtract the ones (10 – 3 = 7).
• Subtract the tens (9 – 4 = 5).
• Subtract the hundreds (5 – 2 = 3).
