Just 10 in York mission This mission comprised ten weekly evening courses held in the York Minster, running from April to June 2002. The course Borthwick Institute of Historical Research, York X:\Finding Aids\Parish Records\York\York St Michael le Belfrey.doc Parish Records (on deposit) YORK St Michael le Belfrey (continued) leader was J. John, a charismatic evangelical preacher. The courses discussed the Ten Commandments and their relevance to modern life, and the aim of the mission was to invite nonchurchgoers to explore Christianity and, hopefully, be converted. Having been successfully carried out in other English cities, the mission in York was organised by St. Cuthbert’s Church, the preparations starting in 2000. Other churches in and around York were encouraged to provide support, consisting of donations, volunteers and prayer, and full training was given. The mission was launched on 24th June 2001, and in December 2001 a Christmas carol concert with J. John was held in the Minster to raise awareness of the forthcoming mission.
