the son of Norma Dean Baker
and the late John Donald Keaton.
A half-brother, James Harold
Smith preceded him in death. He
was a graduate of Gordonsville
High School. He was a Veteran
of the Viet Nam War, serving in
the U.S. Armyfrom 1967 to
1969. He was married to Joyce
Marie Scott. He was an employee
of Wynn's Precision Inc. of
Lebanon and was a member of
First
Baptist
Church

Alexandria.
Mr. Keaton is survived by his

their entire married life. He was a
farmer and worked as a carpenter
for several years working with
different contractors. He was a

Baptist Church. He was preceded
in death by a brother and three
sisters: Tom Rye Keaton, Irene
Williams, Charles Wood, and
Lola Clark.
He is survived by his wife,
Norma Baker Keaton of Brush

December 5th, 2007. Mr Keaton
was a member of Dowelltown
Baptist Church and a graduate of
DeKalb County High School,
Cumberland State University and
Vanderbilt University. He was a
veteran of the United States
Navy. Mr. Keaton was Chief
Chemist for the Water Quality
Control Division of the State of
Tennessee. He was an avid HAM
Radio operator and a lifetime
member of the American Radio
Relay League (AARL).
Mr. Keaton was the son of the
late, Oscar and Alma Tramel
Keaton. He was also preceded in
death by his wife, Annie John
Keaton in 1998, and his son,
Hugh Gordon Keaton.
He is survived by his children,
David Keaton of Ft. Worth,

Junnie Josephine Dennis Keith,
72, of Smithville, TN, were held
Tuesday afternoon, October 12,
1999 at 2:00 p.m. at High's
Funeral Chapel in McMinnville.
Sammy Lee officiated. Burial
was at Centertown Cemetery in
Centertown.
Mrs. Keith died Sunday
morning, of an extended illness,
October 10, 1999, at Baptist
DeKalb Hospital in Smithville.
Mrs. Keith was a nurse at
Good Samaritan Hospital in
Woodbury and was the daughter
of Mr. Leslie Claren & Rosie D.
Dennis, both Deceased. She is
preceeded in death by her
husband, Albert W. H. Keith.
Mrs. Keith is survived by her
son, Larry Keith of Smithville; a
daughter, Unita Butcher of
Smithville; one grandchild,
Keeble Jones of McMinnville;
five great-grandchildren: Amber
Holt, Jerry Holt, Angel Jones,
Jerald Jones III, and Charles
Hale
III (C.J.), all of
McMinnville; and a brother, R.P.
Dennis of McMinnville.

older inhabitants, died at his
home on Pea Ridge a few days
ago, at the advanced age of 90
years. He served in both the
Mexican and Civil War. It is said
of Uncle Ross that he had made
and bottomed enough chairs to
seat the people of DeKalb
County, and sold enough tar to
grease all the wagons ever sold
by the Smithville Hardware
Company. It is said of Uncle
Ross and Jonas Noakes, that in
their young days they traveled
and sold tar from their wagon,
and that when sales on tar
became dull they would do some
preaching.

Mrs. Kennedy was nearly 76

remains were interred, died about
thirty years ago. She is survived

Keyt, W.C.
W.C. Keyt, 77, of Fairfield
Glade, TN went to be with his
Lord on October 18, 2006, after a
long illness. Mr. Keyt was born
in Crossville, TN and moved to
Smithville at the age six months.
He attended school in Smithville
and
graduated
from
the
University of Tennessee in 1951,
with a degree in their first School
of Transportation. He stayed in
the transportation field for next
53
years,
beginning
his
employment with the MasonDixon Lines of Kingsport, TN.
He ended his employment with
Mason-Dixon after 10 years as
District Manager and started his
own
trucking
company,
Cookeville Motor Lines. In 1962,
he merged with Potter Freight
Lines and after another 10 years
sold to Transcom of California.
In 1979, Mr. Keyt became the
founder of Service Transport,
Inc. The company grew to
employ over 1,000. He enjoyed
watching it grow and helping his
employees. The company was
sold in 2002, and Mr. Keyt
retired to fish at Fairfield Glade
Resort and also in Scottsdale,
AZ.
Mr. Keyt was a Korean
Veteran, serving in the Army as
Transportaton Officer for Atomic
Energy of the Nevada Proving
Grounds from 1952 to 1953 and
returned home as a First Lt. To
resume his position as Terminal
Mgr. for Mason-Dixon in
Nashville.
Mr. Keyt is survived by his
wife, Antha Smith Keyt of
Fairfield Glade and formerly of
McMinnville; daughter, Janice
Marie Burris of Nashville; two
sons, Timothy Wade Keyt of
Cookeville and Robert Keyt of
Chattanooga;
sister,
Louise
Frazier of Dowelltown; two
brothers
Lloyd
Keyt
of
Springfield, TN and James Keyt
of Columbus, GA; as well as
several nieces and nephews.

He worked for Coca-Cola
Company for 15 years. He
moved to Smith County, Tn. in
1988 and was a mechanic and

driver
for Builders
Transport and Penske Leasing.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing,
computer and internet, along
with traveling. He was Church of
God in Faith. He was preceded in
death by two hrothers: James
Robert Kilgore, and Louie L.
Kilgore, Jr.
He is survived by his wife:
Joyce Cantrell Kilgore of
Alexandria; daughter and son-inlaw: Paula and Steve Nunley of

Joshua
Joshua Dean Knowles, 28,
passed away Monday, March
15, 2004. Joshua was a
Christian. He graduated high
school in Iowa then entered the
Army National Guard. He
enjoyed horses and music.
On July 8, 1996, Joshua was
involved in an accident where
an individual hurled a concrete
block from a moving car as he
and his brother were walking
home in the rain on Old Hickory
Blvd. near Dickerson Rd in
Nashville.
The
impact
"exploded" his liver and shattered his arm in three places.
Joshua was in critical Condition
in the ICU at Vanderbilt
Hospital for over seven months
and never fully recovered from
his injuries.
He is Survived by his parents:

He was born April 19, 1918 in

Methodist Church.
She is survived by her son and

Kyle died Friday night, April
23, at his home.
He was a native of Smith
County, being born in the Sykes
Community to the late Oscar
Henry Kyle and Icye Jane Hall.
Two brothers, Frank and
Malcolm Kyle, and a sister, Allie
Baker, also preceded him in
death.
He was married on Oct. 23,
193? to Ruth Lee Thomas, who
survives. He was a farmer and
was retired from Wynn's
Precision Rubber and later
worked at Castle Heights
Military Academy. He was a
member of the First Church of
the Nazarene in Lebanon.
In addition to his wife, he is
survived by a daughter, Billie
Jean Manning of Georgia; a son,
Don Kyle of Michigan; three
grandchildren: Deborah Bishop,
Heather Mina and Jesse Kyle;
two great-grandchildren: Brandi
Barlow and Austin Smith; two
brothers: J.C. of Nashville and
