It might be simply reading together or helping with homework, to those of you who volunteer in the canteen or classrooms each week – It makes a great difference! Thank you On a sad note, we farewell Mrs Debbie Chapman this week. Mrs Chapman successfully gained a position at Edgeworth Public School. We wish her all the best and will miss her greatly. Ms Andrea Webster will be taking on the 5/6 Poppies class in collaboration with Dr Leonard and Mrs Colley. We also farewell Mrs Bradley on 1BE this week, Ms Eccles will be taking the class for Semester 2. Mrs Bradley is a wonderful asset for our students, we have been very lucky to retain her services for the Semester. We will see her around the school from time to time and look forward to doing so. Mrs Melinda Paul will also be leaving us to take up permanent employment. We thank her for the fabulous work she has done in supporting our students. Mrs Kellie Sandeman will be replacing Melinda. Parent Teacher interviews have gone very well, thank you for taking the time to chat to your child’s teacher. I have had very positive feedback regarding our online booking system, thank you! Our playground clubs are up and running, you can see the activities, times and locations on the back page or in most classroom windows. Finally, I would remind all volunteers in the school to sign on and collect a volunteer badge in the office upon arrival and sign out as you leave. We need to know who is on the premises at any given time in the event of an emergency. This is also to protect your child should unknown people enter the school site. Enjoy your holidays, stay safe and warm, Philippa and Staff. Facebook and the Internet Help Your Child Play it Safe Facebook is an issue that parents and schools are constantly managing. As a community we need to work together to ensure young people are not participating in or being exposed to inappropriate material on the internet. What’s My Child Doing on Facebook? Young people use Facebook to connect with friends—through chat, personal messages and sharing photos, videos, links and other kinds of information. achievements, wish each other a happy birthday and communicate socially. Start a Conversation Parents don’t need to be social media experts in order to ask questions and begin an ongoing dialogue with your young person. Have conversations about safety and technology early and often, in the same way that you talk to your kids about being safe at school, in the car, riding public transportation, or playing sports. One of the best ways to begin a conversation is to ask your young person why services like Facebook are important to them. Discuss what’s appropriate information to share online and what isn’t. Ask them about privacy settings, and suggest that you go over them together, regularly. Set ground rules, and enforce them. Once information is posted on the internet it is in cyberspace forever. When signing up to Facebook the following restrictions and security applies to the user: 
Must provide real name / information and must commit: 1. Not to provide any false personal information or create an account for anyone else without permission 2. Not to create more than one personal profile 3. Not to create another account without permission if Facebook disables your account 4. Not to use Facebook if under 13 years 5. Keep contact information accurate and up‐to‐
date 6. Not to share password or let anyone else access your account. Parents / Caregivers need to remind their young person that: 


Facebook requires its users to be at least 13 years old before they can create an account. Providing false information to create an account is a violation of the Statement of Rights and Responsibilities. Facebook state they will promptly delete the account of any user under the age of 13 that is reported to the site administrator Kindergarten Enrolment 2012 It’s time for us to commence our transition planning for next year’s Kindergarten students. To assist us in our organisation, I ask parents who have children eligible to start school in 2012 to register with the office. Additionally, it would be appreciated if parents, who know of families with children likely to start school at Wirreanda in 2012, suggest they call the school to inform us of their details.
