DUO FINLANDIA and the World Tour MUNDO RURAL 2015-2016

By journalist Leonardo Vinhas
The Brazilian violoncellist Raphael Evangelista and the Argentin accordionist and pianist Mauricio Candussi were looking within
themselves. They found places where they were born and grown up : the mountains of Minas Gerais, the bucolic landscapes the province
of Buenos Aires, the coast (of Espíritu Santo and Mar del Plata), dry plateaux of Goiás or puddles and forests of Misiones. They found
several settings, full of sensory and emotional impressions. This travel brought with itself the music. Supported by the experience built on
¬five albums and countless shows in 17 countries, this travel was transform into a new album: MUNDO RURAL.
MUNDO RURAL is a festive album, since even in parties there are moments of melancholy, like a cloudy and rainy Sunday in a province’s
park. It is composed of Malambo, Arrasta pé, Milonga Campera and many South American rhythms that sound best on the accordion,
better still in the violoncello, and very powerful when coupled to the electronic arsenal. FINLANDIA is a child of the modern world, an
interactive, progressive and anxious world. Also a world that wouldn’t been born without his pastoral, rural and contemplative
experience. A folk album, as folkloric as the applications of your phone. This is the 2015 MUNDO RURAL.

DUO FINLANDIA and the World Tour MUNDO RURAL 2015-2016
Duo FINLANDIA release in 2015 his world's ¬fifth album with dates already confi¬rmed in Brazil, Latin America, Europe and Asia. The new
album MUNDO RURAL dialogues with the South American traditional rhythms more deeply. The fi¬ve studio albums accumulated
nominations for "Best revelation album", "Best free music album" by Brazil South Music Awards, and one of the "Best of Brazilian Music
2015" awards. FINLANDIA is a project formed by the Argentin Mauricio Candussi and Brazilian Raphael Evangelista. On stage, a fusion of
South American rhythms with a focus on sounds little known outside of their original countries, like the Huayno, the Saya, the Baião, the
Candombe and of course the Tango and the Bossa Nova. All those rhythms are mixed with contemporary elements played in live with
cello, accordion, keyboard, electronic sounds wandering around for environments with choirs and instrumental voices. This fusion sound
granted them with several awards and featured in the press of 17 countries during their tours in Europe and Latin America. It also granted
them with a selection with 3 world artists for the project SOFAR London Music and a selection among 30 emerging artists by Oi Novo
Som. They received an award for best instrumental Brazilian artists 2011 by Hangar Music Awards and were invited to join the cast of the
French agency VO Music, among great artists like Esperanza Spalding.
For this new show, the duo presents a spectacle with intense and vibrant repertoire of 5 albums, focused on their newest work, ranging
afoxé to cumbia, without losing the essence of South American traditional music. "I've never seen a cello played like that" was written on
the Brazilian press referring to the performance, where only two musicians realise a sound mass of rhythms that looks like a big band on
stage, resulting in prominence on MTV Brazil that identified them as "the duo that worth a thousand".
The duo has already shared the stage and recordings with huge artists like Bnegão, Antti Paalanenn (Finland), Jelena Jakubovitch
(Russia), among others. It also has an important repertoire of concerts on festivals, theatres and celebrations. Here is a short list of where
they already played around the world: Café Rivoli Theatre (Portugal), Mbar Helsinki (Finland), UFA Fabrik Kulturzentrum (Germany),
Central Music Brasil Conference (Brazil), Rec beat Festival (Brazil), Fest Contrapedal (Uruguay), Festival de Jazz de Pelotas (Brazil), Aliança
Francesa Theater (Bolivia), ICPNA Theater (Peru), Festival Intenacional de las Artes 2014 (Costa Rica), K8 Live Stage (Nicaragua), Centro
Cultural Le Parc (Argentina), World Music Panama (Panamá), le Festival du Bout du Monde (France), le Festival de la Côte D’Opale (France),
Les Tombées de la Nuit (France), Caixa Cultural Brasília (Brazil), Circuito SESC RS (Brazil), among others.
