Current Situation
As per morning Bulletin IMD
The deep depression over west central & adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal further moved
nearly northwards at a speed of 08 Kmph during past six hours and intensified into a cyclonic
storm ‘ROANU’, lay centred over west-central Bay of Bengal at 0530 hrs IST of today, the 19th
May, 2016 near latitude 15.1º N and longitude 81.4 ºE, about 125km south-southeast of
Machilipatnam, about and 350 southwest of Visakhapatnam & 225 km southwest of Kakinada.
The system is likely to move north-northeastwards along and off Andhra Pradesh coast during
next 24 hrs and intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm. Subsequently, the system is likely
to move northeastwards along & off north Andhra Pradesh and Odisha during next 48 hours.
As per Bulletin Released at 1300 IST
The cyclonic storm “ROANU” over westcentral Bay of Bengal moved north Northeastwards at
a speed of 15 Kmph during past six hours and lay centred at 0830 hrs IST of today, the 19 may
,2016 near latitude 15.6º N and longitude, about 80 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam, about
and 160 southwest of Visakhapatnam & 225 km southwest of Kakinada. The system is likely to
continue to move north-northeast wards along and off Andhra Pradesh coast during next 12
hours, thereafter northeastwards. The system is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by
tonight. Continuing moving northeastwards, the system is likely to cross south Bangladesh coast
between Khe pupara and Cox’s Bazar in the night of 21st & early morning of 22nd May as a
cyclonic storm

Heavy Rainfall Warning: Rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy falls at a few
places and isolated extremely heavy falls very likely over coastal Andhra Pradesh during
next 24 hours heavy to very heavy at a few places during subsequent 24 hours.
Rainfall at many places with heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places very likely over
coastal Odisha during next 24hoursand heavy to very heavy falls at few places on 20 May
and isolated heavy on 21st May.
Rainfall at most places with isolated heavy falls very likely over Telangana and
Rayalaseema during next 24hours.
Wind warning



Wind speed reaching 90-100 gusting to 110 kmph is very likely to prevail along and off
North Andhra Pradesh coasts during next 12 hours and speed reaching 100-110 gusting to
120 kmph during 36 hours.
Squally wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph is very likely to commence
over south Odisha coast from today night. Squally wind speed reaching 90-100 kmph
gusting to 110 kmph from tomorrow morning.
Squally wind speed reaching 45 to 55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is to prevail along and
off north Tamil Nadu & Puducherry during next 24 hours.
Sea condition along and off Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha coasts:


Sea condition is very likely to be high to very high along and off Andhra Pradesh and
South Odisha coasts during next 48 hours. It is very likely to be rough to very rough
along & off North Tamil Nadu coast during next 24 hours.
Sea condition is very likely to be high to very high along and off West Bengal coast on
20 and 21 May
Damages/Impact Expected:
Damage to thatched huts, Minor damage to power and communication lines and Major damage
to kutcha and minor damage to pucca roads over coastal Andhra Pradesh during next 48 hours
and over south coastal Odisha from today night onwards
Expected Storm Surge
Storm surge of about 0.5 to 1.0 metre is likely along Andhra Pradesh coast during next 24 hours
Action suggested:
Fishermen are advised not to venture into sea along & off Andhra Pradesh coast during next 48
hours, along & off North Tamil Nadu coast during next 24 hours and along & off Odisha coast
from today night. The next bulletin will be issued at 1200 hrs IST of 19th May 2016.
Severe Heat Wave Warning: Central and North India
Current situation
Heat wave conditions continued to prevail at most places with severe at many places over West
Rajasthan and at isolated places over Gujarat.As on 18-05-2016: Minimum temperatures were
markedly above normal (5.1 or more) at isolated places over West Rajasthan and Vidarbha;
appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at most places over Marathawada; at many places
over Gujarat region, East Madhya Pradesh, rest Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra, Andaman &
Nicobar Islands and at a few places over Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, West Uttar Pradesh, rest
Rajasthan, Saurashtra & Kutch; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at most places over North
Interior Karnataka & Lakshadweep area; at a few places over Himachal Pradesh & East Uttar
Pradesh and at isolated places over West Madhya Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, coastal
Odisha, Telangana, south Konkan & Goa.
Maximum temperatures were markedly above normal (5.1°Cor above) at most places over
Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and West Rajasthan; at many places over Jammu &
Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh; at a few places over Gujarat and at isolated places over East
Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh and Madhya Maharashtra; appreciably above normal (3.1°C to
5.0°C) at many places over Uttrakhand, West Uttar Pradesh, rest West Madhya Pradesh, East
Madhya Pradesh and Marathawada; at a few places over East Uttar Pradesh and at isolated
places over Vidarbha; abovenormal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at a few places over Konkan & Goa and at
isolated places over Odisha.
Heat wave Warning
The Meteorological Department has issued severe heat wave warning for parts of North and
Central India which area already reeling under the sun. Ahmedabad recorded the maximum
temperature of 46.9 degrees Celsius, city’s hottest day
since 2010. The meteorological department also has
predicted the onset of monsoon will get delayed by six
days and Day maximum and minimum temperatures are
likely to remain markedly above normal over entire
northwest, west and central India during May 17 to
27,2016. The intensity is likely to reduce thereafter and
gradually abate during 27th -31st may.
