General information of electronic exams

General information of electronic exams
The electronic exam hall is 7443 at the 7th phase. You can enter the hall via the lounge at the stairs, where lockers
with locks for the exam hall are. Surveillance is done with cameras which record picture and sounds, student´s
personal magnetic, logging in to the computer and via random identity inspections.
You can sign in to Exam software with the Shibboleth (your LUT) username and password, and all the staff with
teacher status are sign in as teachers. Besides Exam software the computers in the exam hall have calculators,
Notepad, Adobe Reader, Microsoft Paint, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Power Point. The usage of
programs cannot be restricted per exam.
The software consists of exams and question drafts. On the teachers Dashboard there is a recapitulation of the
active exams (enrolled and waiting for evaluation) under topic “Exams that are open for students”. By clicking the
name of the exam, opens up the summary page of that particular exam. The page has information of Submissions in
the assessment process, Assessed submissions and Registered study attainments. One exam has the basic
information of the course and questions made under the sections.
The teacher can create either Personal exam for one or few students or General exam for his/her course.
The exams can be created either so, that all the questions are every time the same or the system raffles the
questions for each student. In this case the teacher has to create a larger set of questions to the Question drafts.
The teacher who created the exam has the access to his/hers own exams and questions. If you add your college to
your exam, he/she will also see the questions. If editing or the ownership of the questions is needed, it has to be
done via copying mode. Other teachers, who though are on the same course, cannot see each other’s exams, if not
added to it as examiner or/ assessor this particular exam.
The exam is open for the time period the teacher has determined, during which the students will take it. This means
the students will not do the exam all at the same time. For this reason, the teacher should think about the size of
the Question draft and the methods of evaluation as the executed exams will come for assessment bit by bit. The
assessment time is still the 30 days.
2
The three times try exam rule is not in use with Exam software. Student can have one valid calendar reservation at
the time. The teacher can determine how many times the student may take the exam before evaluation, as a
default to the software has been set to one.
The students have been given instructions as following:
Registration for an electronic exam
Arriving at an electronic exam
Completing an electronic exam
The code of conduct of an electronic exam
In case of a problem
The student instructions are in UNI > Studies > Planning Studies > Examinations > Electronic exams

Making questions
The questions have three choices:
essay
multiple choice (one right answer)
multiple choice (multiple right answers)
You can create questions from ”scatch” or bring questions done into question drafts. Question drafts is a question
bank for questions. All the questions are stored there, you can also directly create questions into it without adding
them into an exam. As creating an exam the question drafts appear on the right side of the screen. Note! As the
question is added to the exam, the connection to the original question is lost meaning that if you edit the question
in the exam, it will not be updated to the original question.
1. Give a section a describing name (not only e.g. Essay questions)
The sections appear also for the students as separate units and this way they divide the exam into sections.
2. Add from the + sign a new question (or drag and drop it from the right sides Question drafts)
Write your question to the text editor space.
On multiple choice questions the order of alternatives varies.
You cannot use web links as the connection to internet is prevented
3. Give response length in characters (not mandatory, but recommended)
The recommended length is a recommendation and does not prevent the student to write shorter or longer
answers.
4. Choose the wished evaluation scale (points or pass/fail)
5. Write the question intructions
This will appear to the student as reading the question
6. Write the evaluation criterias
These are teachers own notes, not visible for students
These are visible for to college kyy toiselle tentaattorille, jos tentaattoreja on useampia
7. Add an attachment to a question
Every question may have one attachment, e.g. a pdf or a picture. Please note, that the attachment is in such
a format, that it can be opened on the exam computer (programs mentioned on the top).
A picture can only be added as an attachment, not inserted into the question.
8. Save the question by clicking the Save button
9. If needed determine raffeled questions per section by adding the chech mark into Randomize questions and
choose how many questions per student will appear.
The questions will be chosen from questions with in the section
10. Repeat the previous steps within every section in the exam
11. Save the exam with the Save button

12. Only a published exam is available for students to make a reservation. When you are sure, your exam is ready
publish it by clicking the Save and publish button.
The questions and the exam period can be edited although the exam has been published. The editing ability has
been outlined after first sign up, amongst other things shortening of the exam period is not possible. The software
informs you if the editing ability has been outlined.
5
To edit the exam, go to Exams page. Click the exam name to enter the exam and edit it.
The editing of questions does not affect to the exams already done, but it does to the ones reserved (but not yet
started). If a mistake is found from an exam during examination period, it can be fixed.
Exam assessment
You can assess the exam in the software. The software sends every week (Monday mornings) a summary of the
