REVOLUTIONARY HYDRAULIC
EXPANSION TECHNOLOGY
The benefits of two worlds combined in one product – As lean as a shrink chuck with the simple
handling of the hydraulic expansion technology
MAPAL has achieved a revolution in clamping technology with the new HTC technology
with lean contour. Thanks to additive manufacturing, it has become possible to utilise
the benefits of a hydraulic chuck in an even
wider field of applications for the first time.
On the one hand, the new chuck exhibits the
lean contour with the 3° back taper known
from the shrink chuck and the familiar high
holding forces, but does not require costly
shrink devices. On the other hand it offers
the benefits of the MAPAL HTC technology,
whereby the "T" stands not only for high
Torque transmission, but also for Thermal stability. The wide operating temperature range
up to 170°C ensures additional process reli-
ability. The new chuck offers significant benefits not only for mould making, but also for
applications in the automotive and aerospace
sector. It is suitable for all machining operations, particularly in contour-critical areas. In
addition, quick and simple clamping of the
tool is guaranteed.

NO LIMITING FACTORS THANKS TO
ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING
MAPAL exploits the potentials of additive manufacturing in order to be able to use the HTC
technology in a chuck with a 3° taper. The limiting factor of the soldered joint between tool
body and sleeve can thus be eliminated and a lean contour achieved for the first time. The new
technology of additive manufacturing is now making previously unachievable innovations in
clamping tool production possible. Within the cabinet of the laser printer, geometries can be
produced unhindered by machine clamps, tools and production means. After MAPAL had already successfully produced and employed the first additively manufactured tools in series, the
HTC chuck with lean contour represents the next innovative product.

HSK – DYNAMICALLY BALANCED
Until now it has been almost impossible to meet the demand for dynamic balancing of tool systems and their individual components using
HSK clamping elements and tool systems. The different depths of key
block slot in the taper of the HSK adapter create a dynamic residual
imbalance at the clamping tool which is then reflected also in the tool
systems.
The newly developed version of the HSK makes it possible for the first
time to dynamically balance components with an HSK connection. The
modification of one of the two key block slots into a second deep slot
with the same volume eliminates the mass imbalance. The HSK thus
loses its only disadvantage, while maintaining its full range of functions and all the benefits to date compared with other tool shanks. No
modifications are necessary to the machine tools is order to allow the
use of the new dynamically balanced HSK. The dynamically balanced
system leads to improvements in both surface quality and circularity.
Dynamically balanced
Statically balanced
Balancing bore not required
New deep key block slot
Shallow key block slot
A change to the optimised design is possible without risk
or limitations
The HTC with lean contour will be
the first series product with the
optimised HSK
