Additive manufacturing merges two worlds REVOLUTIONARY HYDRAULIC EXPANSION TECHNOLOGY 2 CLAMPING | Hydraulic expansion technology REVOLUTIONARY HYDRAULIC EXPANSION TECHNOLOGY The benefits of two worlds combined in one product – As lean as a shrink chuck with the simple handling of the hydraulic expansion technology MAPAL has achieved a revolution in clamping technology with the new HTC technology with lean contour. Thanks to additive manufacturing, it has become possible to utilise the benefits of a hydraulic chuck in an even wider field of applications for the first time. On the one hand, the new chuck exhibits the lean contour with the 3° back taper known from the shrink chuck and the familiar high holding forces, but does not require costly shrink devices. On the other hand it offers the benefits of the MAPAL HTC technology, whereby the "T" stands not only for high Torque transmission, but also for Thermal stability. The wide operating temperature range up to 170°C ensures additional process reli- ability. The new chuck offers significant benefits not only for mould making, but also for applications in the automotive and aerospace sector. It is suitable for all machining operations, particularly in contour-critical areas. In addition, quick and simple clamping of the tool is guaranteed. CLAMPING | Hydraulic expansion technology Optimum radial run-out as the clamping Area is located close to the chuck tip High torque transmission and thermal stability A back taper of 3° on the outer contour allows machining in contour-critical areas All-in-one – no soldered joint between sleeve and tool body High flexural strength despite lean design Quick and simple clamping thanks to hexagon head screw Optionally with dynamically balanced HSK Additively manufactured hydraulic clamping technology with minimum tool restriction for a broad spectrum of applications ADVANTAGES -- Broad spectrum of applications, for example in mould making, but also in the automotive and aerospace sector -- Machining in contour-critical areas with hydraulic clamping technology -- Reliable clamping even at temperatures up FEATURES -- Lean contour with a back taper of 3° -- Dynamic residual imbalance eliminated -- High torque transmission and bending -- Better surface quality and circularity resistance -- Quick and simple clamping directly on the machine -- Balancing quality G=2.5 at 25,000 rpm to 170°C thanks to the elimination of the -- Diameter range 6-12 mm soldered joint between sleeve and tool body -- Available with HSK and SK shanks -- Optimum radial run-out accuracy of 3 µm with a projection length of 2.5 x D -- Better surface finish with longer tool life -- Shorter set-up times and lower tool costs -- No shrink units required HSK DYNAMICALLY BALANCED -- Balluff chip possible as an option -- For use on all machine tools without any modification -- Modular tool systems can be dynamically balanced 3 4 CLAMPING | Hydraulic expansion technology NO LIMITING FACTORS THANKS TO ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING MAPAL exploits the potentials of additive manufacturing in order to be able to use the HTC technology in a chuck with a 3° taper. The limiting factor of the soldered joint between tool body and sleeve can thus be eliminated and a lean contour achieved for the first time. The new technology of additive manufacturing is now making previously unachievable innovations in clamping tool production possible. Within the cabinet of the laser printer, geometries can be produced unhindered by machine clamps, tools and production means. After MAPAL had already successfully produced and employed the first additively manufactured tools in series, the HTC chuck with lean contour represents the next innovative product. CLAMPING | Hydraulic expansion technology 5 HSK – DYNAMICALLY BALANCED Until now it has been almost impossible to meet the demand for dynamic balancing of tool systems and their individual components using HSK clamping elements and tool systems. The different depths of key block slot in the taper of the HSK adapter create a dynamic residual imbalance at the clamping tool which is then reflected also in the tool systems. The newly developed version of the HSK makes it possible for the first time to dynamically balance components with an HSK connection. The modification of one of the two key block slots into a second deep slot with the same volume eliminates the mass imbalance. The HSK thus loses its only disadvantage, while maintaining its full range of functions and all the benefits to date compared with other tool shanks. No modifications are necessary to the machine tools is order to allow the use of the new dynamically balanced HSK. The dynamically balanced system leads to improvements in both surface quality and circularity. Dynamically balanced Statically balanced Balancing bore not required New deep key block slot Shallow key block slot A change to the optimised design is possible without risk or limitations The HTC with lean contour will be the first series product with the optimised HSK 6 CLAMPING | Complete standard programme TECHNOLOGY LEADER IN THE STANDARD RANGE MAPAL develops and produces an extensive range of standard clamping technology products in Ehrenfriedersdorf and Aalen.
