President Some discussion to go forward with a dues increase for 2018. Many had input on the dues amount. Suggestions ranged from $40 to $80. Most seemed to favor raising the dues to $40 for 2018. Suggestions were made to eliminate the $20 fee for not renewing by 15Apr each year, but to keep the one-time $20 fee for a new member. Family membership would increase to $15 above individual fee. Family memberships are for family members that reside in the same house. Our 10th Annual Warbird is June 24th. New Business Started discussion whether we want to fly at the fair this year. When the known Spektrum receiver is compared to the counterfeit, you can notice differences in how the labels are laid out and the fonts in the lettering. Also, the counterfeits can be quite blurry. Third is the packaging. The good Spektrum receivers come in hard clear plastic boxes with complete manuals, whereas the counterfeits usually come in a plastic bag that contains the receiver and a single sheet of paper. Forth is with the 12 channel AR12120. If you compare the wires that run to the satellite receivers, you will notice different colorization on the wires. Fifth is also with the 12 channel receiver. When looking at the back of the satellite you will see a large raised X. On the counterfeit everything is smooth, while on the true Spektrum receiver the X is a ruff surface. Sixth, with the AR6200s is the technology. The cheap receivers seen on EBay are DSM2. Spektrum hasn’t made the DSM2 receivers for over 2 years. Last is with both models of receivers. If you send them to Horizon Hobbies for repair, they will contact you telling you they are counterfeit and that they will not work on them, that they are sending them back to you. Spektrum Counterfeit Receivers Field reminders: At the April meeting Bill Clontz took the time to give a small presentation on some counterfeit Spektrum receivers that he had run into. He had an AR6200 and an AR12120 that were not original Spektrum receivers and he pointed out how to tell them from the true Spektrum equipment. First is the price. As the old saying goes, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. If I remember correctly, he was seeing the 6 channel counterfeit receivers for $10 to $15 on eBay when they are $79 from Spektrum. The 12 channel counterfeit receivers are running $80 to $90 on eBay when they are $200 from Spectrum. - If you should ever have to call 911 (or order pizza), our address is 178 E.
