TOUR COST INCLUDES Flight from requested destination to Melbourne and transfer from Melbourne airport to our accommodation in the city; 8 night’s hostel-style accommodation in Melbourne, on the Great Ocean Road, in Adelaide and on Kangaroo Island. 8 continental breakfast, 6 lunches and 5 dinners on the way (all dietary needs are catered for). Return ferry from Cape Jervis to Penneshaw, Penneshaw to Cape Jervis: Entrance fees to Seal Bay Conservation Park, Flinders Chase National Park and the pelican feeding. Day 1- Tuesday 3rd of January2017: Flight from requested destination to Melbourne in the afternoon and transfer to the Melbourne Metro YHA. Lunch is at your own expense. In the late afternoon we explore Melbourne and have some free time for our dinner. Dinner is at your own expense. GREAT OCEAN ROAD to ADELAIDE Day 2 - Wednesday 4th of January 2017: We begin the ultimate road trip, cruising towards the Great Ocean Road and stop to watch surfers in action at famed beaches such as Bells Beach and Torquay (home of surf brands Rip Curl and Quicksilver). We also visit artistic beachside villages of Apollo Bay and Lorne to explore. We’ll stop at Kennett River Koalas to see the cuddly creatures in the wild and the historical section of the Great Ocean Road. We take an easy walk (1 hour) through the Great Otway National Park, home to some of the world’s oldest temperate rainforest. There’s no better place to finish the day than the famed Twelve Apostles. This spectacular collection of limestone stacks is best appreciated at sunset from the boardwalk. Tonight we sleep in hostel style accommodation on the Great Ocean Road. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner is included. Day 3 - Thursday 5th of January 2017: We continue along the Great Ocean Road, stopping at several extraordinary rock formations along the Shipwreck Coast, such as the Bay of Martyrs, London Bridge and Loch Ard Gorge. We enjoy lunch at Tower Hill Reserve, the site of a dormant volcano, lake, wetlands and habitat to lots of wildlife: emus, koalas, kangaroos, possums, echidnas and many types of birds. We enter the Grampians National Park in the afternoon. Just before sunset when the local wildlife, such as wallabies, kangaroos and kookaburras come out to play, we walk (an easy 1 hour) to The Balconies, which provides a magnificent viewpoint and photo opportunity of the surrounding ranges and valleys. Tonight we sleep in shared wood cabin accommodation, with the mountains towering around us. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner is included. Day 4 - Friday 6th of January 2017: We get up to hike 2 hours to The Pinnacle, but it’s worth the effort for such inspiring views. We visit the Brambuk Cultural Centre to learn about local Aboriginal history. We marvel at the majestic Mt Arapiles, before hitting the highway and arriving into Adelaide city at approximately 7pm. We stay 2 nights at the Adelaide Central YHA. Dinner is at your own expense. Day 5 - Saturday 7th of January 2017: This is our day to explore the city of Adelaide. Lunch is at your own expense. In the afternoon you have the option to take the tram to the sea-side suburb of Glenelg (own expense) where you can explore or relax on the beach. Dinner is at your own expense. KANGAROO ISLAND Day 6 - Sunday 8th of January 2017 Your 3 - day adventure on Kangaroo Island will be conducted in a well-equipped, comfortable and air-conditioned vehicle. We start our tour from our accommodation the Adelaide Central YHA at 6.00am. From Adelaide we take a scenic drive along the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula and make our way to Cape Jervis for the ferry departure at 9.00am. Our first stop will be Prospect Hill (depending on the stage of repair and if accessible). A steep staircase leads up to the summit of this large sand hill offering great views over Pelican Lagoon and the Southern Ocean. Picnic lunch at Reeves Point in Kingscote where you will get to make your own bread roll with a range of fillings. After lunch we do a short walk to the marina. Kingscote, Kangaroo Island’s largest town and South Australia’s first settlement. You will have some free time in Kingscote before the pelican feeding. At 5pm we experience the feeding of the Australian pelican. Dinner is at Bella’s café restaurant for a range of all you can eat pizzas. Day 7 - Monday 9th of January 2017 Our first stop this morning will be to Seal Bay Conservation Park. You will be taken on a unique encounter with experienced guides, visiting the Australian sea lions on the beach. Then it’s on to Little Sahara and its spectacular sand dunes where you can run up and down them. These sand dunes are totally surrounded by native Australian bush. They provide a spectacular view and are fun to explore. From here we make our way to Flinders Chase National Park, this is one of the biggest National Parks in South Australia. We will have lunch where you will get to make your own wrap and choose from a range of fillings. After lunch we will have a look at the visitor information centre and learn more about this wonderful Island. After lunch we go for a walk to try and spot Australia’s icon, the Koala. You will be able to see them in their natural environment. A trip to Kangaroo Island is not complete without a visit to Remarkable Rocks, a group of weather formed granite rocks and Admirals Arch, home of the New Zealand fur seals. A WOW factor. Dinner will be fish and chips with a vegetarian option. Day 8 - Tuesday 10th of January 2017 Today is our final day on Kangaroo Island. After breakfast we take you to one of Kangaroo Islands North Coast Beaches, Emu Bay, with its own special character. Weather permitting you will be able to swim. Another beach we will see is Pennington Bay, Kangaroo Islands most popular surf beach. Great photo opportunity with its turquoise water, crashing waves, rock pools and a white sandy beach. We will have a late BBQ at Penneshaw. After lunch you can have a kick of the football, go for a walk along the beach or go for a swim depending on the weather. Our ferry from Penneshaw departs at approx. 5.30pm. We return to the Adelaide Central YHA at approx. 8.30pm. Dinner on our last evening is provided at the YHA. Day 9- Wednesday 11th of January2017: This morning it is time to say good bye and students fly back from Adelaide to their requested destinations. Transfer from the Adelaide Central YHA to the airport is included. Lunch is at your own expense. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Itinerary may vary slightly from time to time and this is due to temperatures, weather conditions and ferry changes. Swimming is only allowed during set times and only under adult supervision. At this time of the year hats, sunscreen and closed in shoes must be worn at all times during our walks. Drinking water is provided, so if you wish to drink something else it is at your own expense.
