This year's theme, Prevention is Power: Taking Action for Health Equity emphasizes the critical role of prevention in
reducing health disparities. It is a call to
action, a charge for all of us to unite towards a common goal of improving the
health of our communities.
Everyone in America should have the
chance to live a healthy life, regardless of
who they are and where they live.
Get involved.

STD Awareness Month
Facebook:
April marks the annual observance of STD Awareness Month. Studies show that
people who have STDs such as gonorrhea, herpes, and syphilis are more likely to get
HIV compared to people who are STD-free. And the same behaviors that put you at
risk for acquiring these STDs can put you at risk for getting HIV. The link between
STDs and HIV is real. By educating yourself on ways to lower your risk, you can take
action to protect your health. STD and HIV testing is a critical step in preventing the
spread of disease.
 20 million new STDs, including 50,000 new HIV infections, occur every year.
 Being infected with genital herpes makes you 3 times more likely to get infected
with HIV, if exposed.

of getting an STD, and also lower your risk of getting HIV.

We Want YOU!
Girls –
I am bold, I am smart and I know how to say NO
I am aware of the consequences that could possible
follow
From the choices I make and the paths I take
I choose life over peer pressure for my own sake
I will not be afraid to discuss my feelings about sex
Even though I know being abstinent is best
I love the skin I’m in and I won’t be ashamed to educate my friends
By hollering…… AIDS KILLS BUT IT WON’T
KILL ME!.....AIDS KILLS BUT IT WON’T KILL
ME!
Mothers –
As your mother I promise to always listen
Whether it’s during our morning commute or while
I’m cooking in the kitchen
You are my diamond and it’s my mission to always
help you shine
You can talk to me about anything that’s on your
mind
I might not always like what you have to say
But know that I will never turn you away
This program has educated me to love and teach you
better
Together we can survive any stormy weather!
