How would all the animals have fit and how would Noah have taken care of them? This new attraction brings the biblical story to life. The decorative use of colored hand-painted chocolate is a signature of Long Grove. Since 1975, this confectioner has been combining art and chocolate as evidenced by the chocolate reproductions of paintings by Monet and Seurat adorning the walls. After the tour, you have the opportunity to shop in the Long Grove Confectionary store which is filled with luscious, premium chocolates. JUNE 2017 Thursday, June 15 Fabulous Fox River Valley $ 103 – Member $ 118 – Guest The charming towns of Geneva and St. Charles provide some of the most beautiful stretches along the 202 mile-long Fox River. In June we will visit these communities to see some of the treasures that lie along the river. Our first stop will be the Fabyan Villa Museum, home to George and Nelle Fabyan from 1905–1939. The Villa, re-designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1907 was originally named “Riverbank.” The Fabyan’s acquired 300 acres, creating a country estate which soon became a lavish showplace complete with fountains, gardens, a Dutch-style windmill and more. While visiting the museum, you will discover the Fabyan’s fascinating legacy; including their private collection of Asian artifacts, original furniture and documents and photographs detailing George’s involvement in Japanese international relations and code-breaking. We will also tour the Japanese Garden, a tranquil oasis which the Fabyan’s developed after visiting the Japanese Pavilion at Chicago’s 1893 Columbian Exposition. At the historic and luxurious Hotel Baker in St. Charles, we will enjoy lunch and a tour of this 1928 gem with its scenic riverside setting, which has hosted overnight stays for John F. Kennedy and Gerald Ford. Hear about the colorful Rainbow Room which hosted many famous entertainers such as Tommy Dorsey, Guy Lombardo, Louis Armstrong and Lawrence Welk.
