Shakespeare - The Milford Academy

Time Allocation: ½ term
English
In year 6 we will be reading the Shakespeare play
‘Macbeth’ and in Year 5 we will be reading ‘A
Midsummer Night’s Dream’. We will use these texts to
write both character and setting descriptions that convey
atmosphere and we will be integrating dialogue between
characters to contribute to this.
After this, we will use Shakespeare’s words to inspire our
own stories. Some of us will re-write ‘Macbeth’/‘A
Midsummer Night’s Dream’ and some of us will use this to
write our own story.
Maths:
This term we will be applying our knowledge of the four
operations to a wide range of reasoning and problem
solving activities.

History
To help understand the life and times of William
Shakespeare, we will briefly look at the main events and
monarchs of the Tudor times.
Geography - We will be looking at and discussing the
location of the stories Macbeth and A Midsummer Night’s
Dream. Moreover, we will look at the city of Stratford
upon Avon, where William Shakespeare was born.
Art & Design
We will be using the art software ‘Revelation Natural Art’.
Design & Technology
For D+T we will be looking at the architecture of
Shakespeare’s life time including that of Christopher Wren.
PSHE
Going for Goals – what we aspire to become!
After this we will move onto fractions, decimals and
percentages. Then we will look at the equivalence
between them.
Science:
We will be working through the topic ‘Dinosaurs’ in which
we will have a chance to study, research and present
information. The topic will be focused on developing
children’s scientific enquiry skills.
Why?
To learn about significant people in
British history and their impact on
our lives today.
Computing
We will use art software inspired by William Shakespeare’s
writing to create pictures of the characters and settings.
Then we will insert these pictures into Microsoft Word and
add captions to describe them.
SMSC
What makes a good leader and a

Beliefs and Questions in Christianity (leading onto Easter).
Music
As musicians we will be learning and performing new
songs to sing in assembly. Some of us will also be
beginning or continuing tuition on a variety of instruments.
What is peer pressure?
P.E
In P.E we will be working on improving our table tennis
strokes, athletic ability and our general physical fitness.
