May 2016
Hello OCTD Community!
Sorry for being SOOOO late with this May Newsletter. Once again, the world has pushed back on
us and kept us distracted just long enough to miss our promised deadlines! Ouch! Must be
something good coming for the devil to want us so distracted… Oh yeah! The August weekends
are fast approaching. Thank God for that!

The First Team Meeting was a blessed and fun experience. Mike Shellman did a great job
reminding us about the need to “TRAIN” for our positions on the weekend and then we had a
chance to work with each other and remind each other what our service duties were and how
important it is to show Jesus to the new candidates. August will be a great event! As a reminder,
the remaining team meeting dates are:

June 25 at Red Hill, July 9 – location TBA, and July 23 at Red Hill
Duane Beisner and Sue Davenport are the Rector and Rectora for these two weekends. Please
keep them in your prayers and be open to their call for serving on the weekend. GET YOUR
CANDIDATE APPLICATIONS IN – SLOTS ARE FILLING FAST – Praise God Again!
The INFO NIGHT Secuela we had in May was also a great experience. People brought guests who
showed a great excitement for the weekend. We will be hosting another one soon! It is a great
way to let people see our community and understand that Tres Dias IS a weekend about and for
Jesus. Thanks Ken Hays, for putting that together.

servanthood!
As always – I would love your input on how to better our community, our community events, and
the experience new Pilgrims have on their weekends. We do this for the Lord, but He is waiting
for us to hear His leading – so listen well. Be a part of the August weekends in any way you can.
As always, I so love and appreciate all of you – and all you do for this community and the other
people in your lives.
God’s blessings on every one of you this month!

PASTOR’S CORNER
Dear Tres Dias Community:
It is time for another pastor’s corner. As I told you last month I am no longer working in the
secular world. Please keep Kathy and I in your prayers.
Calvary Chapel East Hills just finished the “Book of Jude”. It was an amazing book written by the
half-brother of Jesus. He and his brother James didn’t believe that Jesus was God until after the
resurrection.
Sometimes we need to see to believe. Remember poor Thomas needed not only to see Jesus but he
had to touch and place his fingers into the holes in the side and hands of Jesus. Look at the
response that Jesus had concerning us.
John 20:
29 Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those
who have not seen and yet have believed.”
When we read this scripture we are encouraged. It helps our faith to know that Jesus was real.
That the hope we have in Jesus is real. God tells us that we need God’s word to help us with our
faith. It is a foundational piece of Tres Dias, one leg of the tripod.
Romans 10: NKJ
17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
In the “Book of Jude” God changed what Jude was to write. Jude wanted to write about our
salvation.
Jude 01: NLT
3
Dear friends, I had been eagerly planning to write to you about the salvation we all share. But
now I find that I must write about something else, urging you to defend the faith that God has
entrusted once for all time to his holy people.
We can’t contend or fight for our faith without spending time in God’s word. It is God’s word that
builds and strengthens our faith.
Look at the end of the “Book of Jude”.
Jude 01: NKJ
20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,

“building yourselves up on your most holy faith”  This is speaking of spending time in
the word of God. We need God’s word to strengthen our faith.
II Tim. 02:
15 Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker,
one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.
II Tim. 16:
14 But you must remain faithful to the things you have been taught. You know they are true, for
you know you can trust those who taught you.
15 You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the
wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus.
16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize
what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is
right.
17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.
 It is God’s word that strengthens our faith
 We can remember the sowing of the seed: NKJ
1. “that some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds … devoured it”
2. “Some fell on stony ground, where it did not have much earth; and immediately it
sprang up because it had no depth of earth … it had no root it withered away.”
3. “some seed fell among thorns … it yielded no crop”

PASTOR’S CORNER (cont’d)


“other seed fell on good ground and yielded a crop that sprang up, increased and
produced: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred”
The seed is the word of God  We call that STUDY in Tres Dias
Study is not just reading God’s word or listening to someone



Back to Jude 01:20
“praying in the Holy Spirit”  We need to be close to God to do that
When I was in Cancun, I was on a hammock reading “Living Water” by Pastor Chuck



Pastor Chuck was talking about speaking in tongues
Pastor Chuck was speaking about being so close to God
Focusing on the desires of God  thanking God for what God had done in his life
4.

I did the same  No distractions  Just thanking God as I remembered what He had
done in my life
 That time was so memorable to me  I still remember how close I got to Jesus
 That was the first time that I personally drew close to God
 Praying in the Holy Spirit  This is another leg of our tri-pod  PIETY
Jude 01:
21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto
eternal life.


I know we all have busy lives
As with anything we do it’s about priorities  Our first talk at Tres Dias


We need to have all three legs actively balanced in our lives
Action isn’t the only thing we are supposed to do for the Lord


Tres Dias teaches: Piety, Study and Action
This is the key verse for Calvary Chapel East Hills
Acts 02:
42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of
bread, breaking of bread.


“they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine”
This speaks of the word of God as being first


“fellowship”  This is getting together as a body of Christ
This would be a fiesta or sequela at Tres Dias

“breaking of bread”  Paul speaks of the “Love Feasts” ending with communion in I
Corinthians 11



“breaking of bread”  Spending quite time with God
Speaking but more importantly listening to God.
When we are truly walking with God everyday - We can have the promise Jude gives to us
Jude 01:
24 Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless Before
the presence of His glory with exceeding joy,
25 To God our Savior, Who alone is wise, Be glory and majesty, Dominion and power,
Both now and forever. Amen.
God Bless,
Pastor Paul Wood

Wisdom from Proverbs
A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare
15:1
Godliness makes a nation great, but sin is a disgrace to any people.
14:34
Fools make fun of guilt, but the Godly acknowledge it and seek
reconciliation. 14:9
Smooth words may hide a wicked heart, just as a pretty glaze
covers a clay pot. 6:23
A person without self-control is like a city with broken down walls.
25:28
A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The
simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences 27:12
A face is reflected in water, so the heart reflects the real person.
27:19
If you help the poor, you are lending to the Lord – and He will repay
you! 19:17
The Godly walk with integrity, blessed are their children who follow
them. 20:7
Flipping a coin can end arguments; it settles disputes between
powerful opponents. 18:18
To learn, you must love discipline; it is stupid to hate correction.
12:1
Truthful words stand the test of time, but lies are soon exposed.
12:19
Don’t be impressed by your own wisdom. Instead fear the Lord and
turn away from evil. 3:7
Don’t turn your back on wisdom, for she will protect you. Love her,
and she will guard you. 4:6
