May 2017 - Trinity Lutheran Church

Good News
Vol. 32 Num. 5
May, 2017
Dear Members and Friends of Trinity,
Well, April showers have brought May flowers,
and brought us closer to our summer programs.
There is still a need for volunteers for both Bitty
Ballin’ and Raising Up Readers over the summer
months, so please check the sign up bar for
opportunities to serve in these programs.
Additionally, we do have another chance to serve
our community this summer…
In partnership with the other churches of the
Wyandotte Ministerial Association, we will be
working this summer to feed hungry kids in our
community through the Green Box Lunches and the
Brown Bag Blessings initiatives. Green Box Lunches
provides sack lunches to kids at the parks during
the Recreation Department’s summer program.
Brown Blessings is WMA’s summer version of
Blessings in a Backpack which we have donated
funds to here at Trinity.
Green Box Lunches runs for six weeks starting
June 26. Trinity is responsible for the week of July
10. We need three to four volunteers to pack
sandwiches at the cafeteria of Roosevelt high
school on Monday, July 10, and Wednesday, July
12, from 10 to 11 am, and two to three volunteers
to go with the food truck to each park Monday
through Thursday from 11 am to 1 pm to assemble
the lunches on site.
Brown Bag Blessings will be housed at Trinity
this summer. We will be the central site for packing
two-day food packages for kids that will be handed
out at each of the four elementary school’s library
on Wednesdays and at Bacon Library and Roosevelt
high school’s cafeteria on Fridays. Each brown bag
will have two main dish meals and fruit cups, snack
bars and juice boxes for a child to fight against
hunger in our community this summer. Remember
no school means no free and reduced lunch
program for needy kids during the summer months.
To assist with this initiative, Trinity is going to
collect 6-ounce juice boxes from now until June 12.
We need 2,200 juice boxes to fill bags this summer
(and I do mean boxes please, the pouches will burst
when packed). So if you see them on sale, buy a
carton, and if you have a Sam’s Club membership,
they have a 36 count for just under $10. Or you
could put a donation in the offering plate marked
“juice boxes” and I will get them for you.
Trinity is also responsible for packing and
delivering the Brown Bag Blessings during the
weeks of July 10 and August 28 this summer. That
means we need four to six people to pack brown
bags on Tuesdays and a couple drivers to take the
bags to the sites on Wednesday and Friday
mornings.
Please prayerfully consider serving in these
worthwhile and much needed programs this
summer. Sign-up sheets will be on the sign up bar
ASAP.
In Christ,
Pastor Grenz

stage will be used through April 21st. Do not place
any items on the gym floor. The gym is rented

May 2017 TWIM Notes
& News
Eight ladies attended the
April 4th TWIM meeting.
Remember: We cannot accept analog TVs, old
desktop computers and monitors. They are very
difficult to dispose of, and we may have to pay a
fee to do so. Also, federal regulations do not allow
us to sell used child car seats or cribs due to the
many recalls on these items. Please do not bring in
large furniture items either.
Mark your calendar for the Spring Rummage Sale
Friday, May 5th from 12 noon to 4 p.m. and
Saturday, May 6th from 9:00 a.am to 1:00 p.m.
Set-up day is Thursday, May 4th (see additional
article).
BABY/DIAPER SHOWER
It’s time for Trinity’s 18th annual Baby Shower and
Lutherans for Life Diaper Shower to benefit the
Crisis Pregnancy Center. The drop-off shower will
take place from Mother’s Day (May 14th) through
Father’s Day (June 18th). New or gently used items
may be dropped off at the table in the church lower
level. Disposable diapers (sizes: newborn, 4 & 5)
may be placed in the box on the Lutherans for Life
Diaper Shower display table located in the church
narthex.
The annual TWIM Spring Dinner takes place on
Tuesday, June 6th @ 6:00 p.m. Watch the weekly
bulletin for more information regarding sign-up,
cost and location.
TWIM will begin a Tech Recycling collection to raise
funds for the 2021 LWML National Convention in
Lexington, Kentucky. Michigan, Ohio and Indiana
LWML Districts will serve as hosts of the National
Convention and need to raise funds to defray costs.
The next regular TWIM meeting is scheduled for
Tuesday, May 2nd at 10:00 a.m. Trinity Ladies,
why not join us for our next meeting? Visit with
friends you already know and meet a few new
people too. All ladies are invited to join us and
guests are always welcome!
Children’s clothing (especially sizes preemie, 2T, 3T,
and 4T), baby bottles, baby blankets, maternity
items and baby furniture (bassinets & Pack n Plays)
are also needed. Due to product safety recalls, no
used car seats or cribs are accepted. A group gift
of a new crib and mattress or a car seat is a way
you may provide help! Questions about the baby
shower; contact Christie Wilczynski.

know who is with the church and so on. There will
be red t-shirts with Trinity's logo in white on the
front, and the word volunteer in white on the back.
If you would like to purchase a shirt, the cost is
$10. Let Mendy know or call the office if you want
