BACKUS AMERICAN LEGION HALLOWEEN PARTY A record

BACKUS AMERICAN LEGION HALLOWEEN PARTY
A record number of costume contestants showed up to spook the judges at the
Backus American Legion's annual adult Halloween party Oct. 31.
Jim and Pam Kichler of Backus took first place and $100 cash in the costume
contest, appearing as Stevie Wonder and Tina Turner.
Coming in second with both a clever costume and clever play on words was Joe
Styndl of Backus, dressed as a "One Night Stand" - a bed stand complete with a
lamp shade for a hat. He received a $50 club beverage and food
certificate and a $10 coupon for the Fresh Start Meat Market.
Finishing third and taking home a $25 club certificate and $10 Fresh Start
coupon was the "Grinch", Paul Rosendale of Hamel, accompanied by his wife,
Sharon dressed as the Grinch Christmas movie character, "Cindy Lou Who."
The winner of the annual Great Pumpkin weight guessing contest was Loren
Petrich who won a $20 club certificate, guessing 788 pounds. He was only four
pounds off the actual weight of "Capt.Jack" - 784 pounds, the largest pumpkin
ever featured in the contest. It was grown and donated by Adam Johnson of
Centra Sota Coop of Santiago, MN
It's a "One Night Stand", a bed stand, naturally, with a pair of glasses, a bottle
of aspirin and a lamp - the shade resting atop Joe Styndl of Backus who won
second place in the costume contest at the Backus American Legion's annual
adult Halloween party
The "Grinch" didn't steal Christmas Saturday at the Backus Legion but Paul
Rosendale of Hamel did get away with third place in the costume contest,
appearing with his wife, Sharon, who came as Grinch movie character
"Cindy Lou Who".
First place and $100 in cash at the Backus Legion costume contest on
Halloween night went to Jim and Pam Kichler of Backus, appearing as Stevie
Wonder and Tina Turner.
"Capt. Jack", named after Capt. Jack Sparrow, Pirates of the Caribbean movie
character, was the largest pumpkin ever featured in the post's annual Great
Pumpkin Weight Guessing Contest, going 784 pounds. Loren Petrick, who
wasn't present, was the winner, with a guess only four off the mark at 788
pounds.
