Snaresbrook Primary School Year 2 Homework Dear Parents, Please ensure that your child completes homework for the week. Any extra reading will help improve their results greatly. Spelling Practise spelling these words: there their hear here no know whole hole where wear These words are examples of homophones – words that sound the same but have different meanings. Please discuss the meaning of each word with your child when they are learning them. Look, cover, write and check Reading Maths Topic Read for 20 minutes. You could read your library book, a book from home, or a newspaper. When you have finished reading please choose an activity to complete. This week in maths we have been looking at solving addition and subtraction number sentences. We have also looked at using the inverse operation to find a missing number in a number sentence. As part of our celebration of reading, we would like the children to make their favourite books into a model in a box. These story boxes will then be incorporated into our lessons, library time and speaking and listening activities. Please enjoy talking through the key events of their chosen stories whilst constructing their boxes. Discuss the highs, lows, funny parts and sad moments, their favourite parts or perhaps bits that they would like to change- but most importantly- have fun whilst doing so! See pictures below for some story box inspiration. Please complete the worksheet with your children that will reinforce this. I have provided an example to support you. Homework is given out on (Friday 31.03.17) and must be returned the following Wednesday (19.04.17). Thank you. Missing Numbers in Number Sentences Please help your child to find the missing number in each number sentence by using the inverse (opposite) operations. Here is an example of each to help you; Addition; 25 + = 38 Use the 2 numbers you have to make a subtraction number sentence. 38 – 25 = Solve this number sentence on a number line. -5 13 -10 -10 18 28 Subtraction; - 18 = 30 Use the 2 numbers you have to make an addition number sentence. 30 + 18 = Solve this number sentence on a number line. +10 30 +8 40 8 38
