THE GREAT ELEPHANT adventure

THE GREAT
ELEPHANT
adventure
Did you know there is rumoured to be an elephant
in Wish Park? One that came to rest in the park
when the circus came to town many years ago.
We invite you to take this as inspiration to help
inform the artwork of the new Wish Park playground
shelter installation.
As part of the improvements being made to the
playground, a shelter and artwork is being built, one
that will bring together not just people in the space
but also the history of the park. We want to you help
us in creating the artwork that will adorn the
shelter and you can do this by using the space
below to draw or write your ideas. This could be
a poem about the elephant, a list of words you
associate with elephants, an elephant joke,
a drawing of the elephant.
These can then be sent to
[email protected]
or come and join us at The Great Elephant
Adventure picnic on 30th August at 10am and get
involved in some fun word and drawings games!
Exercise 1
Try writing a haiku type poem. A haiku is a
three-line poem:
The first line of every haiku has 5 syllables,
The second contains 7 syllables,
The final line contains 5 syllables.
Examples of an animal type haiku is shown here:
Swings through the jungle
Eats bananas from the tree
Has two very long arms
Climb trees with bare hands
Swinging and jumping on trees
Monkeys are laughing
Try writing one or two (or more) about an elephant (or elephants) yourself here.
Exercise 2
For example:
Try writing a few kennings. A kenning is an old word
game and takes the form of two words that are
descriptive of an animal in place of the animal name.
tail wagger = dog
milk drinker = cat
king ruler = lion
tree swinger = monkey
Try writing one or two (or more) kennings of an elephant yourself here.
Exercise 3
Draw a picture of an elephant(s) here or feel free to use another sheet of paper.
