Maranatha Bible Presbyterian Church, Singapore
Reformation Study Tour to Germany, France and Switzerland
8 – 20 Nov 2015 (13 Days/10 Nights)
This year marks the 498th anniversary of the epochal
spiritual change in the heart of Europe in the 16th
Century after the Renaissance. "Reformation Day"
was on 31 October 1517 in Wittenberg, Germany,
when the Augustinian monk and university professor,
Martin Luther, nailed to the door of the great Church a
list of 95 propositions or theses to awaken the people
to spiritual realities after a period of profound spiritual
ignorance. Christians ought to know this significant
event of historic Protestantism for it has tremendous
significance for the individual, family and the true
churches of Jesus Christ today.
This historical educational tour is organized for
serious Christians who love the Lord and His
sovereign work in history. It seeks is to relive that
God-induced religious revival in Europe that impacted
the western world and is still ongoing today. Key
places and events in Germany, France and
Switzerland that took place in history and led to the
culmination of the Reformation Era will be rehearsed and covered in this historic trip.
In the Steps of Martin Luther

Wittenberg – Luther House (Reformation Museum), Castle
Church (Luther’s 95 theses), tombs of Luther, Melancthon
and Frederick the Wise
 Torgau - Hartenfels Castle (the former residence of the
Elector of Saxony, an important political center then from
where the rulers protected and supported Martin Luther),
grave of Luther’s wife Katharina von Bora, can still be found
in the town
 Erfurt – an Augustinian monastery where Luther spent 6
years of his life.




Eisenach – Wartburg Castle, a UNESCO world heritage site, where Luther was secretly
kept here for 10 months to translate the New Testament into German in 1522.
Boppard and Rudesheim – en route
travel along the famous and beautiful
Rhine River
Mainz - Gutenberg museum (the first
printing press invented in 1454)

life but God preserved him. Before the
Roman emperor, Charles and the
prelates, he uttered the solemn and
famous words in defence of his faith
.
In the Steps of John Huss and Ulrich Zwingli
 Konstanz - visit the place where the uncompromising Pre-Reformer John
Hus of Bohemia was deceived and wrongly executed by the church here
 Zurich - Grossmunster Church (where Ulrich Zwingli
the great Swiss reformer started his monumental
reforming work), the Anabaptist caves (with medieval
dark secrets revealed)
In the Steps of John Calvin



Strasbourg – where John Calvin, the great French reformer met
and married Idelette
Grindelwald/Interlaken – enjoy a night in the Swiss Alps en route
to Geneva with a possibility of
experiencing alpine snow.
Geneva – the Reformation Museum, St Pierre’s
Cathedral, the Reformation Monument. This is the city
that was given to the Reformed faith under the godly
influence of John Calvin and his good friend William
Farel.
Other Special Moments and Considerations



The Word of God, devotions and lessons on
Reformation History will be shared daily
throughout the trip and at each relevant location.
A day when we shall have Breakfast in France,
Lunch in Germany and Dinner in Switzerland!
How interesting!
Special considerations have been made to
minimize the hassle of hotels check-in and checkout. Hence, of 10 nights there will be three 2nights stay in the same hotel at Wittenberg, Erfurt and Strasbourg.
 Savor the delectable western delights and cuisines
in a cool atmosphere, including a Luther meal i.e.
what a 16th century meal could have been.
 Be in the blessed fellowship of traveling saints as
we share, exhort and edify one another on the
bus, in the hotel rooms, at meal times and
interesting outings together. Free and easy time
will be incorporated for you to relax and enjoying
the scenery and to move around on your own with
memorable photos before returning home.
