MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
The BDBC is a unique bridge club, a community of people of varied skills and
backgrounds, but we are primarily a group who accomplish things together. In the spirit
of recognition, I want to mention two such recent accomplishments.
First, we have a winner! Congratulations to Olga Mondragon, the winner of the first
monthly BDBC raffle. Olga participated as many of you did, helping our club. So, the
raffle is off to a promising start. Happily, Olga won the $150 gift certificate to Publix. I
thank all who participated in the first month’s event. I also thank Patricia Lehman who
conceived and promoted the project, hoping that the monthly event can provide
supplemental funds for additional improvements for the club. A new raffle contest has
started for May; you can buy a ticket at your next visit to the club.
Second, the Cinco de Mayo Celebration was held Friday night and had an incredible
turnout with good times enjoyed by all. For this party, Norma Temple and Bonnie Jung
added a new twist - entertainment by a talented guitarist/singer, Holguer Pimento, who
entertained the group with lovely renditions of favorite songs. Connie Richards and
George Goymer aided in all organization of set up and clean up with their crew of
volunteers and Carolyn Carter added her special skill of creating a setting through her
design skills.
In short, these two acts represent the spirit of the BDBC, creating something special
and unique.

All sanctioned club sessions in May may be held as Grass Roots FUNd
Games. Funds raised will be returned annually to OUR District 10 to help
fund North American Pairs (NAP) and Grand National Teams (GNT).
Players from our club have been recipients of our district's stipends for
these events. Masterpoints are 64% sectional-rated black with overall
awards for the $8 card fee. Maybe you'll be helping yourself compete in
these national events with the funds raised from these games.
Rank Change Recognition Party
We're reinstituting our Rank Change Recognition Party. Those who have
achieved a change of rank since the beginning of the year will receive an
email invitation and be honorees at the Saturday 5/20 BBQ and game.
Sign up so we will know how much BBQ to cook. We will be holding
these recognition parties quarterly during the year.
The Longest Day is coming!
This year The Longest Day is on Wednesday 6/21. All funds raised will
benefit our local Alzheimer's Association. Games will be held from
sunrise to sunset that day, we'll have a week of charity games, memory
cards will be sold, Frank Stewart has agreed to be auctioned off to play on
Tuesday Aft 6/20, and the popular silent auction returns. Start lining up
your partners, donating items for the silent auction, saving your money to
bid on items, and asking the businesses you patronize for a donation
toward the auction.
