1. Divide the class into groups of 4.
2. Assign (or have students choose) roles in each group:
Biographer – Will research the poet’s life
Cartographer – Will find maps of the poet’s country.
Historian – Will find information about the daily life of the poet
Scribe – Will research poetry of the selected poet.
3. Use grade-appropriate, teacher selected Internet sites and other resources (books,
encyclopedias, etc.) to research your poet.
4. Students gather as much information as possible and take notes on their findings.
5. Once research is complete, meet in groups to complete the PowerPoint Planning Sheet
and begin work on PowerPoint presentation. (See separate documents for Planning
Packet and sample project)
6. To print packet follow the following steps
a. Click on the hyperlink
b. Go to File
c. Go to Print
d. Under Print What Click Handouts
e. Under Handout – Slides per page Select 3
f. Click OK
7. Students work on PowerPoint presentation; it should include the following:
a. Picture of poet.
b. Time line
c. Map
d. Poetry sample(s)
8. Student presentations should include interesting facts about the poet as well as
highlights from his/her career.
Students will share their final PowerPoint presentation with class. After the oral presentation
group will ask questions to check for understanding.
